Lamy 25P Fp & 225 Bp

These pens always sneak up on me. After Lamy's success with the 2000 they applied the same design rigour to the rest of their range, most notably the 8x Profil series reviewed excellently by christof HERE. But their lower range pens also benefitted from the Makrolon/brushed steel look. The 25 comes from the seventies, and this version is designated with a 'P' for 'patronen' or cartridge. However this pen takes standard international-sized carts, and not the later Lamy proprietary T10 ones.

The fountain pen feels a little light, despite the brushed steel barrel; in fact the cap feels heavier on its own than the rest of the pen! The section is plastic and comfortable. Even though it has the 'ears' familiar to 2000 users the section is thinner in girth than the barrel and so these are recessed a little. The nib is all you would expect from a semi-hooded Lamy - very similar in feel to the 2000 but set in a thinner pen.

The 225 matching ballpoint carries on the black top/silver bottom theme. The biro is, if anything more ruggedly made than the FP, and certainly heavier. It also has a feel of quality about it, in a way that the Pelikan K200 ballpoint didn't. It has a satisfying click and a solid metal button. The other bonus is that it takes Lamy's M16 refill, which means that it is still usable today.

The fountain pen is great to use, but for me the ballpoint is difficult to grip thanks to the brushed steel barrel (the same problem I have with the 2000 sections if I grip them to low), and grip is certainly more important with the extra pressure required for a ballpoint.

Excellent review with very nice pictures!

These also came in rather "hip" colours like pink and yellow, I think they were Lamy's first attempt at something that later became the "safari strategy": trying to sell pens to young people by making pens that the young people themselves like, as well as their parents.

Help? Why am I buying so many fountain pens?

I was trying to find a little more on them elsewhere on the web, but couldn't see anything, so photos of this would be great if you have any.

I did find this site though, which looks to be an interesting resource if it gets off the ground:

I have a functioning Lamy 25P fountain pen, like the one pictured and a matching Lamy 525 pen that takes a cartridge of some kind. I don't know what refill will fit it.

Hi,

I have just acquired one of these lamy 25p pens.

Got it off ebay with a old lamy cartridge in it and writes silky smooth, which i find quite amazing.

I'm going to give it a good clean out.

Do you know if any of the lamy converters work with the pen,

Regards

No, it takes international cartridges only. I've tried to attach different converters to mine (Lamy and other brands) and none of them seems to fit well.

Possibly a swapped in nib from another pen (27 or 2000?). I don't think it came with an 18k nib as standard, but someone else may know more than I.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
