Quality And Prices Of Inks Available In India

How about ordering a set of Bril inks online if the brand is not an issue? They have a total of 7 colours available directly through their website including green. The only catch is that your order value should be INR 500 or more which results in almost a lifetime supply of inks, that's what many of us have ended up with!

I have already made an order from bril inks, and it does include the green colour. I am curious about camlin green as the camlin scarlet red is extremely beautiful.

Regards,

Pratik

I just had to convert these prices to U.S. dollars. At this time the current exchange rate is "1 Indian rupee = 0.0225 US dollars" according to Google.Bril Royal Blue (Rs.12, 60ml) $0.27Camlin Permanent Black (Rs.12, 60ml) $0.27Parker Quink Permanent Black (Rs.50, 30 ml) $1.13Parker Quink Royal Blue (Rs.50, 30ml) $1.13Chelpark Turquoise Blue (Rs.15, 60ml) $0.34Chelpark Crimson Violet (Rs.15, 60ml) $0.34Yeah, I wouldn't mind prices like that :puddle: . Of course I'm thousands of miles away and the price of shipping the stuff would be a lot more than the ink itself.

Yes, but what has to actually be taken into account is the salaries in India, and economy of scale. That's the math you should be looking at. How much do people make and what is the cost of ink relative to that?

I gave the currency conversion rates of that time. I don't live in India.

The internal economics of India were not a part of the topic, so what I should be looking at is what I looked at. The math involving the bottom line was what was relevant to my point  .

hi,

Bril have mentioned in their site "BlueBlack, Turquoise" as available. They have also mentioned the inks are available in sizes upto 1000ml.

Enquired a lot about these two colours as well as the availability in 1000ml. Most sellers ( not most, all the sellers whom contacted) have heard of only royal blue and black and the availability in 60ml. Could not yet succeed in finding out the above said colours and the 1000ml bottle.

Is BRIL available in blueblack and turquoise? is it also available in 1000ml bottles?

thanks

If my memory serves me good, Bril turquoise is available but not blue black. There are three ink colours that come in 1000ml bottles (Black, Royal blue, Red). The others come in 60 ml bottles. If you are planning to buy Bril Red, let me remind you that these are not at all the original teacher's red. It has more of an orange-pink shade to it. Buy a sheaffer red instead.

If you do not care about the shade, bril red is a fantastic ink. But I fear it may clogg. Any help on this?

^I have some and I wouldn't really recommend using them in expensive pens if you plan to. Get a Deccan/Guider like I have and then use these inks. :)

My family has used Indian inks, including Bril, in Parkers and Sheaffers of yore, with no problems at all. A flush once in a while is plenty to keep things running smoothly.

I bought Daytone ink 15 colors of 60ml (3 oz) bottle for Rs 400(US $ 6) from amazon.in last week. The colors are

1. Turquoise Blue.

2. Royal Blue.

3. Emerald Green.

4. Brilliant Red

5. Deep Black

6. Havana Brown

7. Dark Grey

8. Bright Violet

9. Crimson

10 Rose Red

11 Blue Black

12 Yellow Ochre

13 Dark Brown

14 Olive Brown

15 Mauve

I only tested one color till today, Turquoise Blue. I don't have big expectations. But the ink seems surprisingly fantastic for me. The ink has good flow, medium wet and good sheen also and after all there is no feathering. The only problem i face with is the bottle. It is not easy to get ink from its bottle. I'll check other colors as soon as i get spare time.

A 60 mL bottle is closer to 2 oz, which is about 62½ mL.

Wow :headsmack: ! That is some haul :puddle: . I suspect that they don't sell internationally, and that if they did the shipping would make the price pretty high in any currency. Oh well.

Sounds good. Can you post a photograph of that ink bottle? Why is it so hard to get the ink out of it?

Camlin Royal Blue- Workhorse of india. Name ink and Camlin comes to mind

Always had saturated colour, however recent change in colour to brighter blue and the watery quality has made me look around.

Has become lot watery now and can see it when writing

Bril Royal Blue - Been using it for past 3 weeks now. Been a topic here for sometime. Had so high hopes from this ink

However it was a rude shock to see that the writing has started to fade!!!!!! :yikes:

It seems so saturated when writing, now it has become a pale- blue black kinds. Feels it will just fade off maybe in a yr or two max

Viscosity- free flowing-deep colour when writing--- all good... but whats the use if the writing is going to fade so fast!!!

Chelpark - You cannot go wrong with this ink ever! You name a quality of ink and its there (except the washable one )

Good saturated colour-viscous-free flowing-consistent- and most important notes written 11 yrs ago have not faded yet!

If i find it again in market will stock it up!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
