Is the cover waterproof or water resistant at all - and suitable for use as a 'field' notebook?

Hi Andrew,

I would call the cover waterproof as I just dumped a cover in suddsy dish water, rinsed it and I cannot tear it. Also when it's dry it can be written on with a fountain pen. the inside text is heavy yet it is not waterproof. I am new to fountain pens and was wondering if there are any waterproof inks you could recommend that I could test on it?

I use Noodlers for bulletproof inks. Bulletproof Black is pretty waterproof and I use Noodlers Fox for red waterproof ink. I use Bay State Blue in a roller ball. Lots of posts here about BSB. It does stain just about everything it comes into contact with. My fingers usually take 2 days of heavy assault to get the ink off, with fingernail brush and solvents. My Noodlers Style Rollerball Creeper is now a blue demonstrator, not the clear it originally was. I hope my comments don't provoke a flame war and hijack this thread. If you go to the Noodlers web site it will tell you which colours are waterproof. Other companies, probably make waterproof ink, I'm just not familiar with them. YMMV, Jim

The paper looks great. I am getting really excited to see the finished product and cover. The binding looks well constructed also. Are you making these completely on your own, or are you sourcing out the binding work?

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the information. I am going to pick up some noodles bulletproof ink and then soak my book and see what happens! I will let you know what happens when it dries.

Hi OCDGuy,

Thanks for your comments, the paper really does accept fountain pen ink well!

As I mentioned previously the binding is saddle stitched (metal staples) on a mueller martini stitcher. This method is proving to be effective because of the tear resistant cover and heavy weight text paper.

I can't wait till these go into production. This looks like a very functional journal. I use something like this it at work but the one they provide has horrible paper and it is much smaller with our company logo on the cover. This is right up my alley. I will be buying at least a few. How will we know when you make these availible?

Platinum Carbon Black is the most waterproof ink that is safe for fountain pens.--others are "bulletproof"

I can vouch for Noodlers' La Reine Mauve - you can easily run it nder a tap (faucet) with no ill effects. I believe the other Noodlers inks will be as good. Iron Gall inks (Montblanc, Lamy, Pelikan Blue Blacks, Diamine Registrars' also have similar waterproof properties I believe)

Yes they do - I've just run Lamy BB (several weeks old) and Diamine Registrars' (a minute or two old) under the tap and they appear waterproof. I think they take a few minutes to completely 'cure'. The Noodler's seems to have almost instantaneous waterproofness.

Thanks everyone for the tips on waterproof inks! I am planning to pick some up this week as I plan on using my notebooks in extreme conditions.

When you add that thread to the for sale section, would you be so good as to link it from this thread? Some of us don't follow the marketplace areas, but we'd be alerted to the action from this thread.

Looking at the teaser photos and A/C sketches, I had an epiphany. Came to me on my meditation, dog walk, this am.

These photos show a notebook that will be a perfect fit for a heirphoto, Latigo cover or a Chiro 75, notobukko cover. I've got a heirphoto especial in my back pocket now. This is going to be perfect. I can't wait to see how they match up, Jim
