Converter Keeps On Falling Off

I'm using an Ohto Proud fountain pen with an Ohto converter, but it keeps on falling off inside the barrel. Are converters not meant for frequent movement, or is this an issue with the Ohto converter? I'm eying a Schmidt one, but I walk a lot and keep a backpack/messenger bag on me at all times so if movement is an issue with converters I think I might just stick to cartridges.

Thanks!

it really depends on the specific converter and pen itself - a hairline width makes all the difference. My Sheaffer cartridges almost always come off in my Sheaffer penb but some cartridges in the same pack stay in place perfectly - I have a schmidt cartridge for my Waterman Apostrophe and it hasnt failed me once (no affiliation) - hope something helped, good luck!

I recently got a Monteverde Invincia Color Fusion that came with a cheap generic converter, and it did the same thing -- wouldn't stay connected where it was supposed to. I swapped it for a BluRafia (Schmidt K5) converter and the pen has been working OK since then. Waterman converters are good too.

Cheap converters are the worst. Pen companies need to stop using them.

I love the screw-in ones available for some pens but the push fit ones are always a source of worry. If it comes loose, then there is a fault - pens are meant to move in normal use and if it comes to pieces and leaks then it simply is not of merchantable quality.

OK, you can make your own fixes using ptfe plumbers tape or a tiny spring in the barrel but that should be a last resort for a pen that you don't want to take back for some reason. Generally, converters should remain in position.

I've pulled the plug on a pack of three K5 converters, which even if I swap the pen I'm sure I'll be happy with. Thanks for the help guys!

I'm pretty sure those will solve the issue considering I've had the same cartridge in for a few days now and it hasn't budged. No leaking, falling off, anything really. Perhaps the Ohto converter just never made a good seal?

Whelp, got them, and they don't fit. The barrel is just a smidge too wide and I can't get them into the barrel of the pen. I'll just save them for another pen I suppose.

Sorry for bumping a really old topic, but I came across an OHTO Proud fountain pen and a standard LAMY converter / cartridge will fit inside it perfectly, as if it were made for this pen.

By the way, the OHTO Proud is a sleeper. Very well made. It has a metal screw thread component in the barrel that mates to the metal screws on the section, so there's no metal on plastic as is typical of cheaper pens. The grip has an excellent quality rubber, much like as found on the Tombow Zoom 505 pen & mechanical pencil line. Cap is friction fit and is snug with an assuring snap. Posts well without causing scratches. The nib is a Schmidt Iridium type, which is very firm, but in the example I encountered quite smooth.

I had a Bexley that would do that. You just need to find one that fits better. It's also while I like the pens that use screw in converters the best, but I still buy pens that don't have threads for the converters.
