Pelikan 4001 Pink (Cartridge)

Recommended Posts

I noticed there's not much about this ink on FPN and decided to do a review of it. It's my first proper review, and I hope I've remembered to include everything. Does anyone know if this ink is still available and if yes, where?

Here's the review:

And a closeup:

I live in Switzerland and this ink is widely available; you can buy a box of six cartridges for $1.

The Pelikan 4001 cartridges available in stores here (all priced the same) are:

Royal Blue

Blue Black

Black

Turquoise

Green

Pink

Violet

For a picture of some of the boxes, here is a group photo I took of a few pens and inks: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_8pq4w7Eq5-Q/TU62HrnnbqI/AAAAAAAAB7E/v9vEEZS-Pto/s1600/IMG_2873.JPG

As for the performance of the ink - I think it behaves very well and the colors are true to their names. No shading or any other quirks to speak of, all very basic.

It is a great deal at that price, and Pelikan cartridges are widely used here. (There are even cheaper options to be had; I bought a no-name box of 50 mixed-color cartridges (yellow, violet, pink, turquoise, green, orange, and red) for $3.50, and there are even better deals to be had for blue and black cartridges. Because fountain pens are compulsory in schools, there are many options to be found here and I believe in neighboring countries as well.

That's good to hear, but I wonder why European online sellers don't carry them.

That's a fresh looking assortment of pens and inks... My box looks a bit different; must be a previous design.

This ink is definitely still available, at least in the US. I just bought a box of cartridges for my 10-year-old niece's Pelikano :)

Goulet Pens sells this ink in cartridges online if you are looking for a US seller.

Ok, so it's available, I just haven't seen it in any of the places I normally look for ink (and since I'm in Europe, no I'm not looking for a US seller). What raised suspicion, was the fact that there's no review of it yet (well, not until now). What obviously makes this ink less popular is it's not available in bottles, so no wonder it's not as well-known as some of the other Pelikan inks.

Thanks for the review--been wondering about this ink for a while. I have a package of Pelikan Violet cartridges which I like a lot, but this color is lovely!
