  1. 1. Which is your favourite celluloid colour

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have lately become interested in Esterbrooks, especially the J models. I really like their celluloid colours and was wondering which colour you all like the most. Maybe you can post the picture of your favourite one.

Cheers,

I would really like a copper that is almost brown that some refer to as "root beer".

I love the reds... from bright red to the dark cherry red, when they are polished up they look sooooo good.

Also the blue, and the green, and my copper is gorgeous. Still looking for a root beer to add to the collection.

My streaked brown that looks like woodgrain, my blue, my deepest red that resembles a fine glass of merlot, all beautiful pens but I think my favorite is my streaky green J. The many shades of green this pen embodies reminds me of vegetation, and cool lush ferns on the forest floor. My favorite ink is Diamine Sherwood Green and I have matched it to this green Estie. Lest my blues or reds or high-tech-looking gray Esties feel neglected, I keep many pens inked and in daily use.

I really like this green one

(Actually, I completely understand the feeling, although I can't write like that, and my favorite is a Blue Jay that has been cleaned and shined)

It's definitely the reds for me. Though I do love blues too... here's a picture of two that I just finished restoring a few days ago.

Need a pen repaired or a nib re-ground? I'd love to help you out.

I am really surprised to see the gray/silver Estie near last in the poll. I think the Silver gray Estie's looks belie their age. I think they have a very "tech compatible" look, quite modern as this silver LJ is a perfect companion to my MacBookPro, matching in color the laptop's aluminum body.

And if I speak poetically of my Esties, there is none so handsome as my father's black J, dressed like a gentleman in a tuxedo, quite sophisticated. If black were added to the poll it just might eclipse all the colors in popularity.

Actually I really like the silver. I voted for Green but had a very particular olive green in mind. My silve-gray transitional fits very well in the business setting plus it's just very beautiful.

My silver J transitional is a favorite but my favorite color often changes depending on which pen I'm using at the moment.

I voted for green, yes, my streaky green is my favorite with my favorite green ink Diamine Sherwood, but I must confess I often stray, seduced by the glimmer of the blue J and Van Gogh's Starry night, or lured away by the luscious Red J filled with Noodler's Passion Fruit .... each one is so enticing.

I love Copper (I have a J and an SJ in copper, the J in dark and the SJ in a lighter shade), it has a lovely richness to it.

I have a green SJ, a blue J and a Red LJ.

But I'd really like to get some of the copper Js or a Transitional.

I reckon copper would be my favourite.

I like all of them, but I'd have to vote for the blue!

It's a standout color that takes the wear from daily use very well. :puddle:

I have 3 Esties that I use on a regular basis:

- a green J with a broad 9968 nib that is wet & juicy

- a copper J with a 9314-M Relief Stub (I think it is 1 mm wide)

- a gray LJ with a 2668 medium nib

I got all the nibs NOS so I am breaking them in according to my writing. I really like all the pens, but I am currently using the green one filled with Nooder's Eel Blue and the two are a great match. I would love to get one of each of the colors before I am done.

Here is a picture of the three kids:
