Good Shading Pure Blue Ink

Hi,

I am looking for a pure blue ink. Most of the blue has lilac component that I don't like. I would like very good shading, low opacity, good saturation, good drying speed, pure blue tonality, and good time/light stability. I like inks not too uniform, but that make shades in the paper.

I know that many of you used different inks and I would like to ask if somebody can suggest me someone. I have read many reviews but the colour in the scan page is often different from the reality.

Thanks in advance!

Private Reserve American Blue is, to my eye, a good blue-blue. Not green, not purple...just plain blue. Dries well.

De Atramentis Steel Blue has wonderful shading.

I found that Noodlers Eel does not like to dry at all. It also cost me some panic-time when I flushed a pen at work, and Eel left a blue ring in our men's room sink. Took a lot of scrubbing with soap and paper towels to erase the evidence...which would have led right to me. (I'm the only person who uses bottled FP ink.)

What is the one that represents the true colour?

Private Reserve American Blue.

It seems to have a good drying time.

Pretty good, depending on paper.

In addition to having the dark blue "spots" on the end of each down stroke, it has a wonderful red shimmer in the sunlight.

Worth a try!

What are the blues that you *don't* like. With so many to choose from, and each of us having different preferences, it would be easier to help out with some idea of which inks are representative of those that are too purple-hued for you.

I like Waterman Blue/Black ink. It's a darker blue with some shading using a larger nib size. Drying time is very good.

Just about any ink will shade and dry better if you add some water.

I didn't expected this! I expected that when ink is diluited the drying time increases! How much water should you add? Distilled water?

I will test some inks suggested! Thankyou for your replies!

I didn't know this either till recently!

People say that distilled water is best. I've used tap water with no ill effects so far.

I have diluted a very saturated ink like Noodler's Navaho Turquoise with up to 50% water. You can start with less. It's fun to test this out.

'Shading' pretty much means that an ink drop gathers at the bottom of the stroke. I still look for it in most of my inks.

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
