Women: How Do You Carry Your Pens?

have you seen the nomadic waist bag at jetpens? i have used that setup with just one bag. worked nicely to keep my pens on me. in fact, any of the nomadic cases do a great job of keeping pens consolidated and locate-able in a bag. overland equipment has a bag called bayliss that can be worn across the body or as a waist bag. if you can wear pants that have side pockets (i'm thinking the work pants at duluth trading) you can clip pens to the side pockets.

I have a metal pen box. But only my old scratched FP goes in there along with some ball points and pencils. My other FPs stay on my desk! At the moment, I'm looking for a leather pen case. My mom has one but I don't think that she is willing to donate it. ;)

Leather pen case in my bag. I switch between a messenger (Keen) and a work bag so its better to have something that will protect them no matter where they live. I will admit to tossing my Lamy Safari in the bottom of whatever I'm carrying. That pen has taken some abuse (a chair rolling over it) and seems to shrug it off so I'm not too protective of it.

I do have a word of warning about pocket carries though. I have always carried a small pocketknife (they're so useful) and had a great little Spyderco with a pocketclip. I went to pee in the bathroom and not only did it fall out but the toilets were autoflush. :headsmack: It was gone before I could even think about going after it. I no longer carry anything important in my pockets.

A penny for the old guy.

The nice pens go in a hidden zipped pocket in my handbag. The durable plastic ones hang around my neck on a cotton-weave lanyard- looks like I'm wearing a cowbell made of pens and mini highlighters (the tools of my trade) but at least I have everything to hand and it complies with hospital safety regulations.

Until I made a pouch for carrying one or more pens with me, I sewed a piece of elastic or two into the lining of one of my purses and clipped a pen to that. It worked out well enough that I never had to go fishing for it at the bottom of my purse.

"Internal Pockets"

for pens, And the current larger droid-type phones.

Also, the ability to open, enter, while the bag is standing.

Please do have a look at Okami's review of, and the Tom Bihn company's (NAYY to Okami), video.

I now have this bag.. will be conducting a Long Term Torture Test, comparing it to my smaller, lighter, but much less secure, fussy to access, bagalinni wallet bags, (which are convertable from shoulder to waist belts).

My job requires "handsfree", while carrying essential equipment, (phone ID pens), on multiple outings each day.

Do See the video! (in Okami's blog page The thought given to the journal/paper carrying ability of this bag is, imho, genius.. but for Me = 3 rings/paper = weight issue. Paper supply is the lesser part of my daily personal need. More so easy Access to enter, and Placement of pockets to safely hold pens, phones, etc.. is essential.. a Smaller journal, similar to the weekly Rhodia would be perfect, but no way to add this without a flap-need to play with this idea, it may yet work.

At This point, I can look over my shoulder and See the TB bag.. just Need time to load up the camera, take some shots of my last two extremely work-worn bagalinni's, and prep the TB for it's work journey. havethe time for person use related critique.

TB size is based upon paper size, is what the average journal/note taker would prefer.. for My needs, handsfree, backsaving portability, This likely makes TB too heavy. IF, it had the next smaller, common paper size, think this would be Perfect for me, and other on the-go-persons, (btw-regardless of gender).

Hope this initial preview helps.

During each day, my Safari remains safely clipped to my sweater, blouse...

The small Maglite (flashlight)holder works well for two small or one medium sized pen and slips easily onto a belt. It's lightweight and thick enough to be pretty protective.

I have a leather 5 pen wrap that i put in my work bag and the pocket books keep relatively nestled. If I'm going to have to leave my bag somewhere I use a 2 pen wrap and just carry that with my clipboard around til I can return to my locked away bag.

I keep saying I can't wait til I have a permanent office so I can keep some at work, but I don't know that I trust people enough, so I can see myself leaving a bottle of ink or some carts at work but not my pens. They may not be super expensive, but they're all special to me. So I'll hopefully have a smaller work bag to put my pen wrap in and cart back and forth from home every day.

If I'm wearing a t-shirt I clip the pen to the neck of the shirt. If I wear a button down, I clip it around the 2nd or 3rd button. The rest stay on my desk. If I'm traveling I have a pen case I made that I carry in my bag that keeps my pens upright and safe.

Seriously, have you checked Etsy.com yet?

I've been debating what to do as well. I've been carrying a trio of Parker vac majors. With three, it's too much to have hanging from a necklace (unless I stick to one dedicated pen, which is a possibility- or luck out and pick up one of the little ring top Parker lucky curves)and too much to clip into a pants or sweater pocket. My purse is pretty small. I am thinking of getting or making a somewhat larger purse that can accommodate a reasonably sized soft pen case (4 pens or so).

I have a 2-pen leather case that I always carry in my purse. Also a 1-pen sleeve, which usually holds my backup rollerball.

I used to clip them on to my shirt collar but that does not work for screw top pens.

I keep the pens I am using in a zippered case (have been getting them on sale @ Body Shop). Since I need my drawing supplies with me all the time I put that case, a sketchbook and diabetes supplies in a nylon string backpack and wear that.

Mat and Nat make a lovely waist pouch, think wallet with zipper on belt for waist. I use that as my wallet: If I didn't would use it for a pen(s). This is vegetarian leather and quite lovely.

My old pens get carried in an old eyeglass case in the backpack.

My purse has a couple of internal pockets. I make sure to always stick the pen in the same pocket, and the only other thing I put in that pocket is my lip gloss. So the pen is always handy.

THe same purse also has a little slot specially for tubes of lipstick, which is good for the pen as well, but usually I can't be bothered.

I have a four loop pen case which I carry in my backpack (no purse in my possession) in a designated "pocket" I am still too squeamish to carry any pens that I can't replace out of the house.

For any in the armed forces, I recommend the thigh pocket on the BDUs as the most stable, least likely to incur damage, but still used a metal bodied pen such as the Carene for those occasions when everything was subject to damage/impact.

My pens go with me in a double eyeglass holder from Vera Bradley. Soft and pretty, and with the criss-crossed opening, I have lots of edges for clips and no rubbing.

I've been following this thread with interest as, coincidentally, we've been working for awhile on doing some reproduction ribbon lanyards similar to what were common in the 1930s.

I'd be interested in knowing: for those of you using necklaces and lanyards, what are the things you would like to see in one? Is there anything you hate, or particularly like? What length is good? (my wife pointed out early on in the process that I need to be more aware of 'big hair.') If ribbon, what would be a better color for findings, gold or silver?

And, if anyone actually has an original, please post a photo! They are scarce as hen's teeth, and I'd love to see some more examples. Here's an example of some photos I've found:

http://www.restorersart.com/images/fpn/chain_small.jpg

While the originals were for ring-tops, it wouldn't be too hard to simply make a ring which could fit around a pen clip, and then into the spring clasp.

Thanks for letting me pick your collective brains...

I have a daft little zippered purse which has elasticated straps on the back of it, so it can be worn on the arm or even a leg. At my sister's wedding I went as a girl  ...that is, I wore a ballgown; but I didn't want to be carrying a handbag, so I strapped the baggie onto my leg under the frock and kept pen, keys, lippie etc in there. Most of the time I've got pockets galore (I'm a big fan of kecks with thigh pockets), or a rucksac; depending on the size of the pocket, pens go in there in one of an assortment of leather pouches... anything from a Kaweco Sport two-pen pouch to a four-cigar cigar case.
