Women: How Do You Carry Your Pens?

Lots of guys have shirt pockets. Lots of women have purses. But I don't want to have to dig around in my bag every time I want a pen. So I'm hanging a longish thin silver chain around my neck so I can clip my Pilot VP onto it. It seems like the most sensible solution. ((I'd use a belt case, because I'm a bit butch, but they all cost way too much for me.)

But I want to hear what others do, too. So what's your solution?

I clip mine into one of the pockets sewn into the lining of my purse. If you always clip them in the same place, you never have to rummage! Plus that way the nibs stay upright during transit.

I have seen them riding seaward on the waves

When the wind blows the water white and black. (T.S. Eliot, 1917)

+1 Do the same when I carry a brief case or tote. So far so good.

For me, there's never any perfect solution. Most of the time I use a purse or bag that doubles as a purse/messenger/briefcase. Sometimes when walking a short distance to a meeting, etc. I carry my pens in a pen case and ditch the purse. Whenever I'm foolish enough just to carry nice pens in my hand, it's often with disastrous consequences -- like another lost pen. :headsmack:

+1 unless I'm carrying multiples. Then I have my pen case in that purse pocket. Most of my purses have soft interior pockets, so my Carenes [the indestructible old faithfuls] don't get too badly scratched.

My pen cases are real leather and do an excellent job carrying those other pens that decide to travel with me.

I'm about to buy a bag with a million pockets. I'm hoping I can use it to stand some pens up. My current favorite bag doesn't have any internal pockets, so I think that's part of my problem. No place for pens except lying down. Which would be bad...

I have tons of pen cases from JetPens so I usually slip the current pens that I'm using in one of those and then into the side pocket of my purse or bag it goes. I have a slim two pen case that I mostly use with my purse and the larger cases that carry many pens I usually put in my messenger bag.

Back when I worked at Family Dollar, about 7 years ago, many of the "ladies" (technically female) who came into the store would carry all manner of things in their, ahem, "breast pockets". Yeah, you know where. The bra! I have handled more sweaty bra money than I'd like to think about. Saw many pens and wallets come out of there, too. Makes me ill thinking about it.

Just thought I'd contribute. :P

This week--A neoprene zippered pencil case (which I got a Big Lots during back-to-school time) tucked inside a Levenger eyeglass case which has a strap that you can attach to your handbag. Pens are upright and protected at all times.

I tell myself that this is why I need a vintage wahl ring-top... I occasionally have a lanyard on which is handy to clip pens onto, but a chain thingy full time might be handy.

I've tried keeping my Lamy Safari clipped to my pants pocket, but it keeps slipping out, to my chagrin. Happily the thing will withstand such abuse - and much more, I believe.

I have a copy of inexpensive plastic (nice plastic) Lamy pen cases that can easily carry 3 pens and sometimes 4 depending on the pens. They work kinda like a old fashioned coin purse, squeeze the top to open. Easy to get to in my bag or purse.

I like your silver chain idea. I have a ballpoint pen that came with its own necklace, and I would love for someone to use that idea with a fountain pen.

Hmmm... I wonder if I can knit some sort of little holder to wear around my neck...

I have a 4 pen leather case which goes in my Tumi flight bag/purse/briefcase. I also have the Levenger Pocquettes lanyard case in red, but rarely use it since I can't wear that type of thing at work. May have to bring it out for Valentine's Day though. Shame they don't make them anymore. For the most part my pens are always in something leather - may just be a leather pen loop inside a portfolio. I think that depends on the pen (and what you do with the bag). I frequently toss a Prera in my purse, sometimes clipped upright to a notebook, more often just loose at the bottom. So far no disasters...

One pen is always in my jeans pocket and an arsenal comes along with me in the front pocket of my REI Tech Wrap Mini iPad case.

I always wear trousers, so I made a pen pouch from a length of grosgrain ribbon, with a loop which attaches to my trouser belt. I also always use Kipling bags, which have pen slots inside. They are rather narrow however, so thicker pens don't fit them. I have searched everywhere for a suitable pen pouch to attach to my belt, but no luck so far so I made my own. It works quite well, and protects the pen from keys etc which are in my pocket.

Just a quick photo of my home made pen pouch. It is so simple, even people who hate sewing could make it. My belt goes through the loop at the top, and the pouch goes in my trouser pocket with the pen inside. It stops the pen from getting scratched by other things in the pocket, and keeps the pen safe. Its the best, and definitely the cheapest solution I've found so far.

In my purse I have an organizer with pockets. My carry around, pen goes in one pocket clipped to the pocket. Always can find it and it stays upright. Other pens travel in a leather pen case sitting upright in a pocket of the organizer.
