Artus Ballit

Try using some o-rings instead of the cork.

If you find a reasonable hardware store, they normally keep a box of assorted sizes. You will probably need 2 to fill the gap.

If I remember, I used two 3 x 1 mm o-rings on my Faber Castell.

Take the pen and piston with you so you cab check before you buy them.

So an update on my Artus Ballit: ended up converting it into an eye dropper. Took some pics as well.

Crafted this beauty from half of a staple remover so I could get at the recessed retaining screw. Just took a dremel to it until the prongs could unscrew the screw. On a side note, the prongs fit exactly the same holes on the nib side of my MB Meisterstück... similarities of German engineering I suppose.

Removed all the innards (sorry no pics, but they look the same as the above), then shellaced the blind cap. Note the 42 FK designation. Not sure what it means.

Filled up with ink on the nib side and put some silicon gel on the threads.

Nib is actually marked with what looks like 32? Does anyone know more about this?

Writes like a champ. Does fine to bold with some pressure; I'd say semi-flex.

I just received an Artus Favorit in excellent condition from eBay, and thought I'd stop by to post some more photos for comparison, and to ask a question.

As you may be able to see in the first photo, the nib is quite mis-aligned. I'd like to remove it to straighten it out, but with careful application of pressure I've been unable to determine if it's a friction-fit or screw-in feed. Can anyone share any advice as to how to safely figure it out, and remove the nib and feed?

Now, the photos:

If you haven't soaked it in several cycles of an ultrasonic cleaner before trying to unscrew, you need to give that a try. If you don't have an u/s cleaner, you'll need to simply let it soak for several days before trying. If you've already tried that w/out success... it may not utilize a screw in collar. You can always remove the filling mechanism per previous threads, and use a narrow dowel & knockout block to remove the nib & feed from the back end. Would recommend you "mark" the position of the nib & feed first, though, to make re-insertion a little easier once you've tweaked the nib to your liking... I use a piece of masking tape around the section to draw my alignment markings.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
