Solid Blue M805/605's

I've seen several solid blue M805's and 605's listed for sale in different places. I really do like the looks of these pens but am curious as to how rare they really are. I realize "rare" is a relative term but it's the sellers' word not mine.

M605 (solid blue) has been discontinued for few years yet readily available.

You can often pick it up for <$200 in new condition.

FPN member in Germany seemes to be constantly offering for sale at good price.

Hello! Pelikan made thousands of these and, from a serious collector's standpoint, they are not rare. They may not, however, be common since they are not in the current catalog and many dealers do not list them. However, ask your favorite dealers and they may be able to locate either pen for you. Check Avalon Pens in Indiana, for example.

Dark blue M605s are very common and readily available at bargain prices (from 100 Euros). M405s and M805s are harder to find, but not exactly rare.

Thanks. I just picked-up the all blue M605 and am about ready to pull the trigger on the matching R605.

As much as I like the classic Pelikan green/black and the beautiful blue/red striated pens, I also really like the monochromatic black and blues. I have both the old and new style M800 in black and will probably get the same in the 400 series.

I just bought an all blue M605 from Christian in Germany. He exchanged the nib and got me a broad nib. Nice broad wet line, very smooth. High quality fit and finish. Very happy with it.

I got my M605 from Christian also, with the default M nib. My M405 has a fine so I figured I'd try something new. What I wasn't prepared for was how smooth it'd be. Very nice.

I just love the blue/silver combo, so it's a perfect match for me. I might go for an M805... But I don't think anything wider than a medium is my forté. But I'm starting to think an italic/stub might be interesting... Either that or an EF. I tend to prefer finer points.

The special/limited editions are pretty nice too, but I haven't gotten into those (yet). I thought I liked the Niagara Falls, but I don't know anymore... I'm starting to lean towards the Polar Lights or Indian Summer models now. I guess I've reached my saturation point for blue/silver pens, LOL.

In any event, I don't think you can go wrong with ANY Pelikan. They're solid, everyday writers. The piston filling mechanism is the way to go (and what I prefer these days).

I feel like I'm missing out by only getting XF nibs on my Pelikans. But, with the type of writing I do at work, I really can't use anything larger than that. I have a couple larger nibs on other pens, like my MB 149 and I love to use them in my journals and personal writing, but it's hard to write subscripts in equations with anything larger than an XF.

I'm thinking of getting one of these as well. Can anyone tell me how good the nib is? Does it have a good springiness?

No, the nib is hard and smooth. As for modern Pelikans I see some springiness in some of my M200 steel nibs. I have read reports that M1000 nibs are more springy, which I cannot confirm. But I can confirm that my modern M400, 600 and 800 lack any significant spring. They are not hard like nails either, do not get me wrong. The flex is minimal but makes controlling the pen very easy in my opinion and writing a pleasant experience.

In my current rotation:

Pelikan 400 Brown Tortoise/14K Fine/J. Herbin Cafe des Iles

Lamy 2000/14K Medium/Lamy Blue-Black

Sailor 1911 Large burgundy/21K Naginata Togi Medium/Diamine Oxblood

Montblanc 146/14K Fine/Montblanc Racing Green

Rosetta blue/Steel Pendelton cursive italic/Pelikan Royal Blue

Delta Passion/18K Broad/Diamine Syrah

I have a 605 and I love it, but when I first got it, it was having hesitation problems. Figuring it was residual release agent in the feed slit, I soaked the nib unit in a weak 409 solution and that seemed to solve that.

There is a german seller on eBay with 3 of the blue M605s for sale... Buy it Now $180, free shipping. You can get the M nib out of the box, or get it swapped from Pelikan with a 3-4 week wait.

No affiliation, blah blah blah... just looking myself for one!

:)

There are a few sellers right here on FPN that offer then for cheaper (or similar) as well (e.g. Christian, DeScribe, and I believe printhardcopy). I got my own from Christian, actually.

Excellent... I would much rather deal with users here than ebay! Thanks for the list of sellers.
