How Do You Display Your Ink Bottles On Your Table?

Recommended Posts

I have quite a few bottles of ink but I wish only to have a handful on my table. So I just stand a couple - a Iroshizuku and a Edelstein. I am wondering how others here show off their ink bottles on their tables. Or even at all. I am not looking to create a huge shrine or display case. Just want to get some ideas how others have their beautiful bottles displayed.

Thanks for sharing! BTW Would love pics if you have any....

Cheers

I have the bottles I'm work with under my monitor, thats about it. The rest are in a stainless steel box bottom from a retail outlet, just in case I get leaks or something...

I just read about the improved ink shrine post, but I don't see the point. I simply don't display inks. I need the deskspace for my journal and two pens. I just don't like cluttering up space. I do have a shelf dedicated to inks that's wedged between two bookshelves. I might get around to taking a picture unless I forget.

In some things in life it's better to take a Zen approach. If you think too much you won't achieve your goal, wheras if you don't think and let yourself go, it shall be achieved with ease. I find this helpful in writing, kendo and music.

Mine are in a shelf of a Barristers type case.

It depends on one's situation. In my case, the improved ink shrine helped de-clutter my living space. The 'shrine' is located in a very oddly designed space next to the fireplace. It was not really suitable for any other purpose other than a display/book case. By locating the 'shrine' there, it allowed me to move the inks from another location and freeing up that space. The drawer hides all of the pen paraphernalia. I added accent lighting to the 'shrine' that now adds mood lighting to the room. Now I have room to add more inks. :roflmho: :bunny01:

Besides when you have so many beautiful Iroshizuku bottles why not display them.

I've got a bookshelf next to my rolltop desk that has my inks, on top of the bookshelf is a 4 shelf CD case that is now completely full of inks, in fact many are "spilling" onto the top of the bookshelf.

At some point, I might build an ink shrine and do something similar to Ricky's most awesome setup.

I hope there will be some more pics. Love seeing those pics!

I keep only one ink out, on an old Levenger pen stand. It would be the ink I am using the most at any given time. The others are kept in a secretary away from heat and light, and the bottle count is kept low by using up a bottle before buying another one. The pens in the pen stand are also those being most frequently used. The current ink most used is J. Herbin Bleu Myosotis.

I have mine in a dark drawer because I assumed that they should be protected from light and excess heat. Is it OK to store your inks in the light?

Good question - but I suspect the greatest risk is direct sunlight. If its not in direct light, I suspect the risk is not high. UV light damages a lot of things and do discolour stuff. But it takes a fair amount of time I believe.

Love the self control. I have 15 bottles now, 14 more than I am used to. :headsmack:

I am going to need your self control and finish off the inks one at a time before the luxury of the next one.

I get around this dilemma by convincing myself that I need the variety of colours. Variety afterall... is the spice of life.

Just as we only need ONE Fountain Pen - but we most certainly have more than one! :-)

Yes, too true. My pen collection has grown by a ridiculous 700% over the last 3 months. Another resolution of no pens for a while. :crybaby:

My bottles of inks fit inside one drawer, which is one way to contain the numbers.

I like the idea of an ink shrine, but I like the idea of not having to dust the bottles better.

I like Ricky's ink shrine, cos he has all those gorgeous bottles and colors, so that makes sense to me, to display them on shelves like that.

To each his (or her) own.

....have a custom armoire, constructed in an ancient Japanese wood, harvested from some remote location there....no metal anything?....held together by wooden dowels of the same wood? This 6'h x10'w x 2 3/4' d cabinet... fabricated near home by a master cabinet maker, who's clients include the Met Museum's curator, holds all the fluid on shelves and pens & papers in it's drawers. I might add, all this stuff is hidden in total darkness and climate controlled elegance. This piece was just one present from my incredible g-f for the holiday. She organized everything by company name....amazing. W-t-h.... if you pull out the hidden slab imbedded in one of the shelves it's connected to an x-tendible arm hidden in one of the vertical supports...a writing platform?..wow...I didn't even see that until just now. One of the drawers, part of a shelf-top.... actually ...now... can swing out , to present two of my pens, in a baccarat crystal thingy...that also holds two Iro bottles of ink. Looks like a modern minimalist desk. My leather top desk, in my study/ office is now a paragon of organization and cleanliness in the new year....unlike all throughout the past decade....LOL. I guess this will have to be moved into the bedroom? You'd never know what this is ...when closed....think I'm going to put the surround sound music system's cd/dvd player( B--e) on top .... No affiliations.

I keep my ink bottles in a cigar box. It keeps the bottles out of sight, away from light, and keeps my numbers down. My rule (for now) is to only keep what will fit in that box. This does not apply to bottles that are too tall for it though...see, I already have a loophole to accumulate more inks.

Inked:

Pelikan m205 black 0.9ci/F Italifine (Diamine Damson);

Aurora 88 nikargenta (Iroshizuku Kon-Peki);

Pelikan 140 Steno (J Herbin Lie de Thé)

No shrine. Infact, I keep the bottles in their cardboard boxes. Only those in current rotation are allowed on the desk, and the box protects from light. Either in the drawer or on the desk, the carboard gives a little protection from glass breakage if anything goes wrong (like a suicide dive to the floor).

I keep mine in a desk drawer, that way they're out of direct sunlight. I want them to last as long as possible. :)

I keep mine in a drawer, protected from light. A bit sadly--I would like to look at them. But I have a glass desk against a window, though it is a north-facing window.

i shove mine in a drawer, sorta roughly organized by brand. colors i use up front, colors i don't in the back. if i had them out, cats would knock them off and break them, kids would break them, i would break them, and my wife would kill me for inky messes. :P
