Safari Vs.al-Star Caps

I love my Safari but I just wish the cap would snap closed more "positively". Is hasn't accidentally came off but it seems like it could. Could someone tell me if the Al-Star cap snaps on more solidly? I know they are the same except ABS vs. Aluminum construction I just wonder if cap fits better.

thanks

It does not snap on more solidly (very very tiny muffled 'click' sound). Easily uncapped just like the safari. However the body has a much more comfortable texture in my opinion. Didn't like the slight roughness of safaris.

Step 1: Buy another fountain pen

Step 2: ???

Step 3: Profit.

I've had the opposite experience. My AlStar is a little bit more rough (less polished on the edges) than my Safari and it tends to have a definite click when capping it. Just to be clear though, my Safari is over 10 years old and my AlStar is just a few months old. Probably they're not meant to be different from each other though...

I have an Al-star and some safaris bought at the same time and they have exactly the same "clickiness". I can remove the cap with the same hand with which I'm holding the pen. It has a quiet "click" sound when re-attached.

When shipped, mine came with a cardboard ring inserted between the body and the feed, just where the pens clip together (presumably to extend the body so that they could ship the cartridge inside without it being inserted into the feed). It wasn't for a couple of weeks that I realised this wasn't actually part of the pen and removed it. :headsmack:

I am starting to get over the Al-Star. Metallic and nice to hold, but more pricey and nothing significant. I hate the fact that the aluminum surface gets scratched easily...

The "click" sound comes from the soft-plastic-rubber inner cap, which is exactly the same on both pens. This part keeps the cap attached to the pen.

In my opinion the too soft inner cap is the biggest weak point in the otherwise bulletproof Safari-design. If you press too hard when putting the cap on

the pen you can bend that rubber inner cap and the click is less crisp than before, it can even become so loose that the cap won't stay on the pen anymore.

Don't press too hard!

My favourite Safari/Al-Star to hold is the charcoal (non-shiny) plastic safari. That said, I like the feel of the Al-Star better than the shiny safaris. No logical reason for any of this.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
