So I'm to believe Jean was on deck at the signing and she ran over and handed him the pen.

 

I've not looked at all the footage or photos but I do not recall seeing any civilian spouses on deck. I'd think that would stand out.

There were 3 separate statements in that quote.

 

Perhaps if you'd Somewhat hinted at whether you were disputing 1, 2 or all of them...

 

I would say questioning whether Mrs. MacArthur's pen actually came out of her purse of not to be the most minimal point of importance of the three.

I have seen this on the History Channel, Many thanks for the video link. It is a keeper.

 

 

After using and distributing the first "black" pens, General MacArthur took his wife's pen from his pocket. This photo from the same archive.

 

 

Upon his return, he presented it to Mr. MacArthur. She lost it. (I hate her.) The Parker Pen Company presented her with a replacement,

but it just aint the same, is it ?

Not saying he didn't use multiple pens but the accounts of the event in pen communities do not always correlate with those of the US Military.

I was specifically addressing this part of the story. I do not see Jean in any of the related material I've found. Since the eye witness saw her there and there in no supporting evidence, including the available video, I consider this account suspect. In viewing the videos and pictures I clearly see two desk pens and several pocket pens. Some appear to have metal caps.

 

But it does make a nice story.

I know almost nothing about Pens or Parker Pens, but my great grandfather worked on the Parker Pens used at the signing. Matthias William Hanck, was a silversmith from Chicago, worked for Parker Pen company and, at least according to my grandmother, did the specialized work on the surrender signing pens. As a child, I found it odd that they had specialized pens made for the surrender and even went to the lengths of having a silversmith hand craft them!
