Large Bottles Of Ink?

WontonST

Recommended Posts

I've always wondered why fountain pen ink always comes in such pitifully small bottles. With the exception of Noodler's, ink always seems to come in quantities less than 60 mL. The Montblanc ink, at 50mL, is especially depressing given the price and intricacy of the bottle. Hence, I must ask, does anyone know of ink being sold in large quantities, like those large bottles of dip pen ink?

50 mL is 30-50 fills in most pens. To me that isn't a small amount of ink at all.

Unless you use one knd and colour of ink exclusively, it will probably take many months to deplete a bottle. I've been fountain pen using since summer of last year and I don't even have a bottle half depleted yet. (That may be a symptom of how many inks I have... so many choices!)

Too many pens; too many inks. But at least I've emptied two ink bottles now.

If each fill is 1 mL and each bottle gets you 50 fills. I refill my pens 3 times a week. And I write about 2-3 hours a day. Then one bottle of ink should last me 15 weeks or 3-4 months if I use one color exclusively; which I don't.

I think of my FPs as my children.

Missing-pen.de

He sells a litre of Pelikan 4001 for a very good price. It's quite a commitment, however. I've purchased this from him and I find that his package arrives from Germany to California in less than a week. A friendly fellow too, I might add. (No affiliation, of course.)

I've seen Noodlers sold in large amounts too, as mentioned above.

Diamine is 80 ml.

Pelikan sells 250, 500 and 1000 ml. Unfortunately blue and black only. No blueblack :crybaby:

The Writing Desk (Diamine) ink is 100 ml.

J. Herbin sells 100 ml.

Yes, I like to buy the big bottles and refill my empty 30 ml Pelikan bottles that come with the blueblack ....

And for some reasons I go through a 30 ml bottle very fast. A vintage Pelikan holds much more than 1 ml of ink.

I've been trying to buy one of those for a while. Nathan's not responding.

I bought one of those one liter bottles, plastic bottle, a couple of years ago. No need to buy more of that ink.

You do realise, of course, that use of any bottles bigger than the usual 30, 50, 80 ml is going to mean that you have already used 2-3-4 of those and committed yourself to using one and the same ink for months or even years.

I prefer trying out 10-20 different inks instead.

Love the Herbin 100 ml. Means less little bottles for the trash men to think I'm an ink junkie :bunny01:

sure, because seening multiple 100ml bottles is less impressive than multiple 30 ml bottles.

Face it, woman. You are an ink junky. 20 little bottles of airline liquor in the trash doesn't look any more impressive than two or three magnums or a handful of 40s.

i have too many inks to buy larger bottles of 'em. But they're out there. My concern would be that you'd contaminate a liter of ink and be really peeved with yourself. Maybe buy the liter bottles and decant (carefully!) into a smaller bottle to reduce the risk of having SITL (slime in the liter).

On ebay you can easily find 250 and 1000ml supplies of the Pelikan Black and Blue. For decent prices too! Hmmm... This is intriguing me! If only they had blue black....
