Rotring 600 Nib Replacement

Hello,

I have a Rotring 600 old style 2nd edition in the lava finish and I am wondering if the nib can be changed. Are there any other Rotring pens that are using the same nib (Esprit 1st edition, Newton)? If such an operation is possible would you post some advice or pics on how to properly do it? Thanks!

The nib and feed on the artpen pull out. Sadly the nib wouldn't fit my esprit.

I hope you have better luck with the 600.

Born British, English by the Grace of God.

There was some talk of the Esprit and 2nd gen 600 nibs/feeds being interchangeable, no one seems to have tested it though. I would have if I had a 2nd gen 600, those Rivette nibs are pretty cheap.

I just wish that someone would come up with a way of retrofitting/replacing 1st gen nibs with something else that would be more available (maybe something with a hint of flex?). Unfortunately those are completely proprietary so it would basically mean a complete overhaul of the section.

Just for reference:

I have several Rotring 600 (not 1st generation) with which I have managed to swap nibs. This includes a 2nd edition lava finish as above.

To extract the nibs, you need to just pull (and have string fingernails!). The replacements nibs are ones I bought from german ebay -- or you can search worldwide using ebay.co.uk and "rotring ersatz feder".

They were sold as either separate nibs, or nibs and feed (tinterleitenmodule) for the rotring esprit. Again, extract by pulling. If you can get your fingernail to catch on the blob of tipping, that seems to be the purchase that you need. The only one I had an issue with was a 1.1mm caliligraphy for the Esprit that I really wanted to try in my lava 600. It DOES fit the lava, but the issue was there is no blob of tipping, so in getting enough purchase to pull it out, I mangled it a bit. But being a rotring nib, a few good dings on any blacksmiths anvils you have lying about will probably do the job!

I have also swapped the nibs into a Rotring Esprit (non-telescopic version, there seem to be quite a few of these in India -- any colour you like as long as it is green, and as long as you don't mind it being part of a job lot including 4 indian eyedroppers with Popeye & Bluto designs!).With these, you can unscrew the feed section entire, as long as you have purchased a nib and feed that comes WITH the plastic tube with the little slot in the end-cap for the unscrewing!

So, all that means that you can, with a little patience and a little money (about a tenner) swap your boring M nib for an EF, or even an OM......................................
