Highlighters - non fading???

Ok, even if this is the wrong forum overall, does anyone know if there's any totally fadeproof highlighters (marker type)? Doesn't matter which colour specifically - for example, if the blue one from one manufacturer doesn't fade but a pink one does, then I'll take the blue happily.

Noodler's makes highligher inks. I don't know if they're fade proof though.

You definitely need a marker and not a pencil? I like pencil highlighters because they do not fade or run dry.

I use Noodlers Eternal Black and Polar Black.

 

I would like to use Noodlers Highlight Inks (yellow, light blue/green/pink) over this ink, using a brush pen.

 

Does anyone know whether the Black is permanent enough so that it does not get smudged by these highlighted inks ?

When I used Noodler's Eternal Black, it would smudge whenever I used a wet highlighter, a highlighting pencil or just rubbed the writings with my (dry) fingers.

 

 

Waterfan, if permanency is so important, why don't you try a lightfast drawing marker (eg Faber-Castell PITT Artist Brush Pen). They won't come in neon colors but will do the highlighting as well.

If you need to stay with regular highlighters, just do a test yourself: draw a line with every highlighter you can get hold of on a piece of paper and let it lie in the sun for some time. You'll then see which are fadeproof!

I've never used highligeter ink so I can't comment on that but another option is highlighter pencils (I just saw sonia_simone mentioned it, too). They are like oversized fluorescent color pencils. I bought a set of three colors made by Farber Castell from Levenger a long long time ago. You can also get a lead holder with real thick higlighter leads. Lamy and Kaweco makes them, and probably others.

I haven't had any issues with smudging or smearing with Nooder's bulletproof black or the other bulletproofs--it seems to depend on mysterious factors, certainly including the type of paper, but there seem to be other issues as well.

Yeah, I suspect its something that happens to the ink on its way to Europe (maybe rapid temperature drops/risings while the flight). I've read in german fountain pen forums that others here have the same problems with Noodler's I mentioned, though we bought the ink from different distributors. I'd be interested to hear if other Europeans here had similar problems with the Bulletproof Black. (Hello, Ray?)

The ink seems to behave in the US (no political offence meant)

another vote for highlighter pencils here. You can find very cheap ones (google for "Bible Highlighter") and I have a Columbus pencil holder that i put pencil highlighters in. Both are great and non-fading.

 

Oddly enough, they will smear graphite.

I had the same question but only tested a couple of inks. Noodlers Firefly was pretty ephemeral but Noodlers yellow was very lightfast as was Noodlers blue...

From what I understand, Noodler's "Firefly" Year of the Golden Pig is bulletproof. And according to the Goulet website, the Dragon series highlighter inks are partially bulletproof.

Year of the Pig is completely bulletproof.

 

IIRC, the Dragon series can be removed by oven cleaner, so I'd imagine it's partially bulletproof. That said, I have no idea how the fading properties are. Fading tests on regular Noodlers ink has proven them to be VERY fade resistant, so I'd imagine these near bulletproof highlighters should also have very good fade resistance.
