Waterman Ballpoint Refills

OK, my Directeur General showed up - very interesting pen. Fortunately with a steel converter inside, so I don't need to use up one of my dwindling supply.

It was part of a set with a ballpoint, but unfortunately the BP has the old style refill - conventional brass tube, terminating in a flared out tip that fits onto a fancy black plastic doohickey that pushes the point in and out.

I don't think these refills have been available for years. I could try converting some conventional refills, but the minute you cut the tubing to length, if there is ink in it that far up, you have a major mess on hand.

If I have to, I'll do that and then flare the tips, but if there is any alternative I'd sure like to investigate that first.

Does anyone have a line on NOS refills, or an easy conversion? I'd love to make the BP work so I can use it in tandem with the DG FP.

I also have both gold and silver Moire BPs that take the same type of refill, so I may have to get REALLY inky hands if I need to convert en masse.... :(

Here is the DG pic from Petra's review:

Mine has red inserts instead of black. Very cool!

Like a parker refill? The jotter still uses that. The modern waterman refills are much longer so I don't think a parker refill will fit, but maybe, longshot, the older waterman refills were shorter and a parker does fit?

I happen to have both a parker and waterman refill lying around here and the modern waterman refill is *opens pen and gets out refill* *drumroll* 11,3mm

the parker is 9,6mm. And the parker is fatter.

So yeah, the shot is getting even longer, but it might be worth a try.

I'd say try all other brands refills. Maybe one fits.

Thanks for measuring, Lisa.

My best bet looks like it might be to cut a regular refill to size and use a brake flairing tool to put the end on it (Have to see if I have the right small piece to do that in my brake kit). Darn, I was hoping it might be easier....

Could you put up a picture of the refill?

Sure - I'll snap one after work.

Another problem is that many (all?) refills are now pressurised. If one cuts into them, the ..er....ink...will be all over the place.

Hmm....maybe I could buy partially used refills from people and cut them down more 'cleanly'?

Here it is, a quick snap of the actual bits and the original instruction booklet.

I'll measure the diameter and see if I can find the correct size refill, and then start in hacking and flaring if no one has any better ideas.

Follow-up for anyone that has a CF BP.

Thanks to a suggestion on another board, we checked out the refills for a Must de Cartier pen and they FIT!

So I don't need to get inky fingers (no more than usual, anyway) trying to modify something else to fit. All you need is a handy Cartier store.....

Hi flyingcows

My BP is a Waterman Concorde not a CF, but it uses the same refill.

I wish these photos may help you.

1. First, you pull the cap away

2. Then, you will find a knob/lever

3. Move the lever toward either way

4. Pull out the refill

After refilling, the same process backwards

regards,

TorPelikan

p.s. the refill shown in the photo was made from a refill for S.T.Dupont BPs.

Refills for CROSS BPs may work but the tip is a little thicker for some particular models.

For example, my silver color Concorde metal model accepted CROSS refill but brown plastic model did not.
