Finding plain square envelopes

What is that size called in the U.S? My printer calls some envelopes DL European envelopes.

I saw on a site that the size DL is 110x220mm

What would be the closest size in the U.S?

First off, they're not really square --- mailing square envelopes (in bulk) is a sure way to get hit w/ nasty mailing surcharges.

What you want is an A2 ``Announcement'' envelope, which is 4 and three-eighths by 5 and a quarter.

Very Helpfull info from both of you :)

My problem is that I usually write a minimum of 5 pages if not 10 while snailing so I need a enveloppe that will hold that much paper.

I think the size of the envelopes used to hold Hallmark type cards would be ideal, the problem is I don't know their size and how to get them by themselves.

I am aware I will have to pay a mailing surcharge.

IME an A2 envelope will hold up to 4 sheets of 20--25 lb. letter paper folded in fourths.

That said, it's really easy to make an envelope of any sufficiently large sheet of paper --- just dismantle an envelope to see how --- while there are templates available, I usually just lay what's to be mailed over a sheet, cut out the corners, trim, fold, glue et voila! instant envelope!

You are incredibly helpfull thanks! I remember now that I bought a plastic template for the very size envelope I want.

Thanks for triggering my memory.
