My New Onoto Magna Classic: The Old, The New, The "done Right"

I have a Magna Writer LE (No 100 of 100) reviewed on FPN, with super smooth, wet F & B nibs with no perceptible flex. Beautifully put-together .....I'd suggest that anyone who thinks otherwise has a faulty one and should get it replaced.

I have also ordered a WES President's Pen(also No.100!), essentially a blue Magna with a chased(is that the right word?) barrel like the 261, and a Medium 18K nib ...should get that at the London Show...yum

They are classy but unostentatious pens, IMO.

Thx for the nice concise informative overview of your wonderful new Onoto Magna Classic, :clap1: Congrats on joining the O Club

 

I am fotunate enough to have ordered 2 Onoto's, one is the Magna Writer and the other is the Classic 261 soon to arrive.

I have ordered the 18kt Stub nib & the other is a med.

Hopefully will be here within a week or so and can't tell you how excited I am to be in possesion of them both to add to my growing collection of Beauties

 

All I have read/heard and ppl I have talked with are in agreement this Onoto Companies offerings are indeed in a similar echelon of English FP Co. as the CS, YoL et al.

What a beautiful pen! Since I joined this forum I discovered a lot brands. And what a great pens they make.

The Onoto Magnas are mag-nificent!

 

Magnas have nice balance, some flash with the gold or silver bands but are tasteful, not ostentatious. It screams classical design, which I love. Moreover, they have that nice shape, like a Japanese pen, a Piccolo. There's just something about that shape that gets me. The chasing on the barrel and cap is nice, too, which distinguishes it from many of the Japanese brands I like (Danitrio and Nakaya).

 

I would prefer that the Magna was made of ebonite or celluloid rather than acrylic though. A few members have reported manufacturing defects near the clip or seams of the pen parts, so I'm a little worried about that.
