Manuscript Calligraphy Fountain Pen Ink

Does anyone have experience with Manuscript Calligraphy Fountain Pen Ink?

I noticed this brand at the new Hobby Lobby store in my area and wondered if it would be worth trying, and if it's actually safe for fountain pens, seeing as most of the inks by the brand seem to be dip pen only. Cheap too, $5 for 30 mL...

It's usable for fountain pens. They make (fountain) calligraphy pens too. I should get to trying some myself... Hobby Lobby is located in a nearby city. I also know that there was a review on our very own FPN about a month ago of their Sepia ink.

The above shall not be construed as legal advice under any circumstances

Manuscript clearly distinguishes their fountain pen inks from their dip pen inks. If you visit their inks page ( http://www.calligraphy.co.uk/inksandAccessories.asp ) you can download the calligraphy brochure, wherein it states that the fountain pen inks are non-waterproof and washable.

Looks like they've recently updated their bottle design from what I saw at the store. The new bottle looks nicer (though I do like the idea of the older small round bottle which I could use to decant Noodler's into in the future) and removes "Calligraphy" from the title, clearly denoting it as "Fountain Pen Ink," but that looks like the same stuff. At the price it's running for (and I think it's even 30% off this week too) I'll have to give some a try. I don't need a Black, Red or Blue so maybe I'll try the Sepia. Cheap way to see if I like brown inks at all, anyway.

I bought a couple of the Manuscript fountain pens in blister packs. They came with short International cartridges. The ink was so quick drying, I could hardly write with it. It was like writing with black chalk. It would dry in the nib after only a few seconds of idle time. I poured all the ink down the drain and use the cartridges for other inks. The pens work well with standard fountain pen inks.

Paddler, which pens did you buy and where did you find them? I find Manuscripts are good starter pens for giving as gifts.

I bought plain, black plastic Manuscript pens. They have an "MS" logo in gold on the clips. The blister packs came with cartridges and an assortment of screw-in sections with nibs mounted. I bought them at a Michael's store. They were very inexpensive, but work very well.

I finally got some of the Sepia inked up and my initial impression is one of pleasant surprise. I've only written a couple of lines, but I actually quite like it. I wouldn't describe the color as "Sepia" but more of a chocolate brown, maybe something between Diamine Chocolate Brown and PR Chocolat (at least going by the swabs at Goulet Pen). I can't really comment on lubrication as the pen it's in is very smooth on its own, regardless of the ink in it. But, I can say it's well behaved on my cheap Mead 5-star notebook paper. Not a bit of feathering, at least with this nib. It's a much better ink the $5.99/30 mL would suggest.

I think Manuscript Sepia to be very similar in colour to Parker Mocha. I have been using it on and off for a month or so in two cheap pens and find it a very well behaved ink.

I have some like that, but I'm not much of an italic writer. I've been hoarding my supply of their "Dodec" pens' iridium nibs. Their "college cartridge pens" are simply the best 'cheap thrill' I've ever seen, written with, used, or touched.

I just got myself a bottle of the Black Manuscript Fountain Pen Ink today at Hobby Lobby for $3.89; which is $5.99 with 40% discount applied. I am gonna run it through everyone of my pen from the least to the most expensive, one by one and see how these pens response to this type of ink. Wish me luck and I'll let ya know what's up with this ink.

I hope so late a post is acceptable. I just found an old bottle of Manuscript Black at a stationery shop in our town. Nice black. Better than my usual Lamy Black. We don't get many options around here so when I saw that lone old 'un I just purchased it together with an old bottle of Sheaffer Blue. Have not tested the Sheaffer.

I dont think I can find this around anymore.

I have tried four of them.

I'm not a huge fan because they are not over the top saturated. They are nice inks with out a lot of fuss.

Whoaa that is sure plenty. Choices are pletty limited where I am. Enthusiast market is non-existent and there are pretty few users of fountain pens in fact I am yet to see one in person that actually use one. Many dont even know how writing with one feels like. Manuscript was around years ago by vitue of schwan-stabilo, a German-Malaysian manufacturer that marketed the brand here and I am not seeing stock being replenished.

If I stumble into more of manuscript black I will sure buy again. Works nice on print paper that I use. I assume it sure works better on better quality paper. Black is blacker than Lamy Black that I use. No notice that I have to clean the nib with extra wipe after filling though.

I cannot set foot in a Hobby Lobby, so we'll find it in cyberspace.

I understand how you feel.

I looked at the Michaels website, but they only paper to carry Manuscript ink in the mini cartridges. No luck at the websites for Dick Blick or Utrecht, either. Sorry.

I guess you will have to Google it after all....
