Fountain Pens In Movies And Tv

What surprises me here is the wrong ugly way to hold a fountain pen: with the middle finger in the section.

Actually it's the correct way to hold a writing brush: in this manner, the brush would stay perpendicular to the paper much easier, which facilitates writing. That said, in Japan, people learn to write using the more common "pen grip" even if writing with a brush, and the classic "brush grip" has fallen into disuse.

No, I am not going to list my pens here.

I also want to come back to Penny dreadful.

Episode 5 of Season 1 sees Vanessa writing one of many letters to Mina.

I deliver some snapshots, they are the best I could make :

Is it an authentic period (victorian) pen or a modern equivalent ?

They had a quartz pocket watch in that show, so maybe they went for style instead of antique props.

Anyone have an idea ?

Yes, I was wondering about this too. Is it a Yard-o-Led??

From the documentary "The Roosevelts: an intimate history" there is a picture of US president Woodrow Wilson using a fountain pen:

Wilson was president from 1913 to 1921 when most people would have used a dip pen. This FP could be a Waterman perhaps?

I just spotted a FP in the sitcom "Selfie." Karen Gillan "Eliza Dooley" was using what I believe was a Cross Century (Medalist finish) to write in the episode "Nuggets of Wisdom." It was a brief flash of the pen, so I am not sure of the make / model, just that it was slim, chrome, with gold trim.

Peaky Blinders, season 1, episode 6, Cillian Murphy's character uses what looks like an old BCHR FP to write a letter to his love interest. In a prior episode he pulls oit a pen from his waistcoat to give to Sam Neill but it never gets used. It looked somewhat like a another old BCHR or BHR pen.

I'm inclined to say Sheaffer. A Parker of this era would have a ball-ended clip, but it would also have a ring mount, at the top of the cap. The clip could be Waterman or Sheaffer, since it's hard to say if there's rivets or not, but the shape of the section moves me toward Sheaffer-- it's a little stockier and looks to have a bit of a shoulder.

Montblanc in "John Wick," but it was a roller or bp.

Hey, that's how it goes sometimes. ;)

This is a closeup picture I took. Maybe it'll help to identify this "presidential" pen:

From the 1958 movie "The Young Lions", Christian Diestl (Marlon Brando) writes a farewell note to his love:

Hard to tell what pen this is. But if there was a ever such a pen as a mottled Rouge-et-Noir lever fill with a Pelikan clip this would be it. ;)

Just spotted a Pelikan M600 or M800 (green) in Godard's new film, Au Revoir au langage. There's a close-up of someone dipping the pen

in water and writing with a flexible nib a page of nice, broad cursive handwriting.

Imagine my surprise - and joy--in seeing that unexpectedly!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
