Pelikan Fount India Ink

I am reviewing the Pelikan Fount India ink in black. Unlike it's India ink, the Fount India is designed for fountain pens, and intended for fountain pen drawing.

 

It is one of my darker black inks, along with Noodler's bullet proof black and Aurora black. I have also included black inks from other brands as a comparison. The ink cost about $5.00. I filled a Jinhao X450 with it for over a month, and so far no clogging or any issues. If anything, the nib glides much smoother, leading me to believe this ink has great lubricating properties. Like other dark inks, there is some nib creep.

Wet test - the ink is waterproof from what I can see. I soaked the sheet of paper for 5 minutes and it didn't lose any color. I found this to be consistent as long as I allowed it some extra time to dry. While it passed the smear test with flying colors, it isn't waterproof until you give it extra time to dry. As you can see, some of the words got blurred once water touched it - I wrote those in about 10 seconds before soaking it. The words that didn't fade were written yesterday.

I was quite surprised the the Aurora black also held up against water. The MB black and the Lamy black changed drastically. So far I recommend this ink and feel it is safe for fountain pens. I always leave the nib up whenever not using the pen, which may have been a factor. Thanks for reading.

Interesting ink! I've never heard of this before today. For $5.00 it sounds like a good deal. How many ml were in the bottle?

It comes in a 30 ml plastic bottle. The cap is also an eye dropper. They also sell a giant bottle which you can use to refill the smaller bottle.

This is my favorite black ink. I've been using it for years with no problems.
