Hello,

I am looking for a U.S.A source for the following item.

Alwych Book A618 133mm x 83mm (appox. 5.25"x3.25") Company

Amazon was selling them, but they are now listed as not available.

BTW: This notebook is not for fountain pen use (paper is about the worst for FP's i have experienced in a "high end" notebook, perhaps worse than Field Notes even :yikes: Could be used as a blotter, if it were only thicker.. . )

But i use it for nature study field notes with mech-pencil...

Thanks in advance to any one with a tip...

This seller on Ebay is U.S. based. http://cgi.ebay.ca/Alwych-Notebook-Set-All-Weather-Journal-Ruled-4-Books-/350211945256?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item518a423328 I don't know if he'd have the size your looking for. He's a reliable seller I usually buy my Noodler's ink from. As usual no affiliation.

I made some enquiries on your behalf at Alwych and produce the Managing directors to my responses:

"Alwych Notebooks with their all-weather flexible covers are designed for people on the move like birdwatchers, fishermen, etc, and are not really meant for desk use with a fountain pen. The paper is a cream wove to stop shine through, and it may not be hard and smooth enough for a fine nib fountain pen.

I have just signed my name on an Alwych book with my fountain pen and it is not too bad. However I would not recommend using a fountain pen as the pen of first choice for use with Alwych Notebooks.

We used to produce a range of traditional Ledger Books called Greenbacks which were printed on Azure Ledger Paper with a 50 year guarantee. They were then hand-bound with a leatherette hardback cover, but the cost of the special paper and hand production made the books too expensive to sell.

We still have limited stocks of these A4 size ledgers with various rulings if you are interested. (11, 12 and 17 columns across a two-page spread).

Also, for your information, both Alwych and Greenbacks were originally products of McNiven and Cameron of Edinburgh who also made the Waverley Pen. The Company was renamed Waverley Stationery under which it traded for 50 years + and I purchased the business out of receivership in the nineties.

One interesting point is that a court battle supposedly took place either in the late 1800s or the early 1900s between Waverley and Parker Pens as to who had produced the first fountain pen . . . and I am told, Waverley won the case!"
