PS. i don't even know how these things work, i guess i'll figure that out when i get it!!!

Good deal! I have one that I've never really used yet so I'll stay tuned here for someone to explain it.

Nothing to it, jbb. Take inkwell top off. Fill well with ink up to the fill line (mine has an orange o-ring which serves as a fill line). Replace inkwell top. Dip pen nib in a bottle of ink (this step is just to prime the nib---it makes it easier for the nib to attract some more ink when it's already wet). Put pen into the inkwell. Write when ready.

It's really a fun inkwell. And that design is just excellent.

I keep coming back to my Esterbrooks.

Agreed -- I put a double 444, the "leatherette" set, both with 2668's, on my office desk a few months ago, got it in a trad with an fpn'er. It's wonderful. One has Noodlers Nile Ebony for writing (not N's best black but I have it so am using it); the other has BSB for signing company checks. I can sign 10-12 checks between dips and each one is dry before I lay the next one on it, love BSB.

I did carefully instruct our custodians, who for some reason insist on cleaning offices, to not touch it, and opened the inkwells and dripped a drop of BSB on their fingers to show them the potential damage they could cause by moving it.

You forget about filling the pen. Why they ever went out of style is beyond me. As for maintenance, you do need to remember to soak the nibs out every so often, even though they're always wet. I tend to do this over weekends, leaving the nibs in a glass of water and the open holes covered with tape.

best,

Tim

Jill, if you want the pen you sent me back, let me know...it's a spare, which is why I got it.

:headsmack: Oh goodness, of course not Tim, I sold you a spare and still kept a few spares. :headsmack: I only have one of the holders though. I guess one of the signs that you've been collecting pens for a long time is that you start forgeting about things you bought and don't really have time to use all your pens anyway.

well, i got it today....

... it is aaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwesome!!! :bunny01: :bunny01: that thing is brand spanking new!!! and it picks up the ink so easily. i didn't have to prime the nib unit, that is, dip it in the ink bottle first. as soon as i dropped the pen in, it started writing for a long while w/o dipping it again!

thank you all for the compliments and stuff!!!

go buy yourself one if you still don't have one!!

Do tell us what ink you put in it! :) BTW, I measured the volume when I filled mine, and that well can hold about 28 ml of ink. That's a lotta ink! But the 407 can hold even more, I think.

I keep coming back to my Esterbrooks.

Enai, i'm using the thistle powder "mix it yourself" thing i bought from ebay a while back. i have galons of that ink (otherwise, i'd have to empty half a bottle of any 50ml ink!!!!). IMO, it looks close to Diamine BB. here's a review on that powder ink: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=103417

Whoa! I did not know there was such a thing as Thistle powder ink mix. Thanks for the tip and the comparison to Diamine blue-black---it looks good! :)

The 447 also came with a chain between the well and pen. Mine has seen regular use since I bought it--a fill of ink will dry out before I can use it up (but a little water added on occasion keeps it going for months).

Just received my 447 set (English made, well used), and according to the printed message on the fabric bottom of the base the 447 with a chain was a model 448.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
