Converter For Platinum Pocket Pens

Hi all:

The first converter fits in a Platinum pocket pen--provided we do not pull the screw all the way up. The second is the regular unmodified Platinum converter.

Detailed instructions in here.

The alternative is refilling cartridges, which I often do.

Thanks for posting! I always wondered why I couldn't use Platinum converters in their pocket pens, since the converter is barely bigger than the cartridge.

So there is no original converter that fits into a Platinum pocket pen? I have seen them been described as c/c, but no proof of them being able to fit a converter was provided so...

Btw, is it the same for Sailor pocket pens (cartridge only)?

Converters DO exist for platinum and Sailor short pens.

I have one of each that, for now am keeping.

My theory is Platinum and Sailor desired to sell ink.

If you buy a pen and like it, you continue buying that makers brand of ink.

It's that simple.

There is an alternate theory of cartridges being cleaner that I do not buy.

Getting cartridges???

A number of years ago when speerbob was in Thailand, AFAIK some of his pens came with converters.

If so, a seller from southeast Asia might be your best source.

If not, you need to troll Yahoo Japan.

An alternate solution is to make your own converter.

I have seen one or two sites where squeeze-things of one type or another have been melded to Platinum and Sailor cartirdges.

I bought a few of Speerbob's Platinum short pens a few years ago. They came with steel nibs and each had a squeeze converter. I removed the squeeze converters and discovered they had a breather tube in them connecting them to the feed. I tried the squeeze converters in my other Platinum shorts pens. I found their capacity to be limited and the seal on other Platinums wasn't great so the converters leaked. I now just refill cartridges.

Thanks for the replies. Well, I figured that it'd be a cartridges pen anyway, but with so much knowledge on these forums it's always good to throw out a question :)

Anyway, I have just been smitten by the short/long pocket pen design (I wonder why it took so long) and got a couple on their way, Platinum and Pilot.

I just modified a standard Platinum converter to fit my brand new Platinum pocket pen (I was able to acquire an unused one), and wanted to stop by and thank the OP for the very helpful instructions. 7mm did the trick to resize it to the same as a Platinum cartridge ~ I can now use bottled ink. Cheers! I found one with an 18k soft fine nib and this now has become my favorite pen to write with.

I know this thread started a long time ago, but it proved to be invaluable to me. I used a boxcutter to shorten the converter and it works beautifully. I've been looking for a converter for my Platinum pocket pen for a while and finally wrote with it for the first time today. Made my day! Thanks for the clear instructions!
