An Interesting Ink For Use On Blue Paper?

Just wait until you see Indigirl's handwriting -- it's so beautiful. :cloud9:

At this rate I'll be shamed into improving my own handwriting.

Fear not, I didn't have as much time as I would've liked for this little project, so it's mostly just scrawled & scribbled... nothing to write home about, so to speak... & anyways jbb's writing & esp. her flourishes are the mostest! :bunny01:

The Noodler's Saugaro Wine looks even beter in person. On the paper it is stunning.

All mailed out samples have been received (just waiting on a kind soul in the UK who is kindly providing their own sample!) and scans should hopefully be posted in the next week or so.

  • 5 weeks later...

The results are in! (even if the scans are not  )

With the kindness and generosity of jbb, indigirl, StyloBug33, Mr Wote and welfvet I have been able to find inks that are perfect matches for the Bond Street Blue paper; as well as a few runners up that are going to become part of my collection soon enough.

Coming in at a close third, is a surprise for me. . . Noodler's Luxury Blue. Definitely entering my collection soon.

In second place and one of the one the inks to be presented to my wife, is J. Herbin Eclat de Saphir.

And the winner, and quite the surprise, is Diamine Light Green. I never expected a green to look so good on blue. However, I cannot find Light Green anywhere in town, so the closet (and an almost exact match) is J. Herbin Vert Pre.

ETA: My deepest and most sincere apologies for my egregious oversight of rogerb's contribution to my search.

Hey, so what was my reply #16, chopped liver ???

21 different inks, on the real SBSB, and not even an acknowledgement ... :(

I realise the writing wasn't as pretty as some, but....

I'm sorry roger, I posted this while at work and foolishly was looking only at the the items I had in front of me, rather than looking back through this entire thread. My original post has been edited to correct my glaring oversight.

S'all right ....as long as you find something appropriate :)

"Egregious" seems to be a fashionable word .... pity that most of us probably don't know what it means (or didn't until we looked it up)

<--knows what "egregioius" means :glare:

the l r mauve was outstanding on the blue,

not chopped liver, wondered which ink in your special red pen?

also wondering if the gold at the top of jbb's page was her special metallic mix? or something new? it's also a standout.

love the flourishes, as always jbb!

R, a-ok that your strong hand is not fourishy; )

edited to add *egregious

Well, I sure as heck don't know 'fourishy', p2p

And yes, I do like La Reine Mauve a lot .... use it for addressing letters & PCs(it's my only BP ink) ..and it works on Smythson's Nile Blue!

It would probably have been '1670' in my SRP

Diamine Light Green is a beautiful color but it is surprising that it ended up the best one on blue paper.

I was surprised as well, but my informal straw poll at work showed that colour to be the overwhelming favourite.

I also took quite a shine to Levenger's Fireball.

Hopefully, I will be able to turn up a bottle at the Toronto Pen show.

I, too, am surprised ...it's a very personal thing, but I found the greens rather garish, especially the light ones.

The purples, to my eyes, look much more 'distinguished'.

Is it to be a surprise gift or could you ask the lady's opinion?

I had a wife and 3 daighters and have never tried to guess their preferences regarding colour combinations .....just "You look great, dear"!

w00t! It always makes me happy when people appreciate the oft-misunderstood green inks :bunny01: :bunny01: :bunny01: I happen to have my favorite pen inked up w/ that color right now.

I'm so glad to hear of the results; having participated in the ink sampling I feel somewhat invested in this whole endeavor... now eagerly awaiting pix of the assembled gift! :cloud9:

Please don't misunderstand me, I really like greens, especially Diamine Kelly, Woodland and Delamere.

I just don't think they go well with blue paper ... but I am happy for you if you do :)

I probably shouldn't have said "misunderstood" -- "under-appreciated" is more what I meant. Recognizing of course that color preferences are highly variable & individual. I can get sorta overenthusiastic in my green evangelism

I've done it. I confess. I used Penman Emerald almost exclusively for a while and I had that lovely old Crane Airmail paper in blue and the combination was lovely. I can't really picture a light green working but hey, whatever floats your boat. Woodland would probably work since it's a medium-to-dark green.

Not that I'm trying to talk you into anything that might hurt your inky sensibilities, roger. :)

There were some other greens that I saw that just didn't do the trick at all. I'm not sure what it is about that particular shade that tickles me in just the right way. I'm wondering if, because the green is closer to yellow than blue, if that plays off the blue of the paper in someway.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
