Thank you for a delightful review. I really enjoy your blend of detailed description and subjective impression. From your review I can imagine the pleasure of owning the pen.

I do not know the way to make an ED filled pen, but I think the Maple can not be used as

an ED filled pen. The wood of the Maple will absorb the ink . So I am taking care not to make the wood stained with ink.

Rokurinpapa, can you check inside the barrel, is it lined with plastic upto the bottom or is the wood exposed? If it is exposed, then it is not worth risking the staining of the wood.

Regards,

Hari

Sorry for delay. The wood is exposed in the barrel. Of course it is lined with plastic upto the bottom in the cap.

Thank you for your kind support. Japan lost the game to Paraguay but I think they did their best and I was cheered by their fighting spirits.

Recently bought this and I share most of rokurinpapa's sentiments.

Writing with the pen is a delightful tactile experience. The nib is distinctively springy (more so than the 823 btw) and I was pleased to read that it seems to have been used for Pilot's 65th Anniversary pen. I too find myself handling the pen just to enjoy the feeling of touching the maple wood. Am looking forward to watching the pen darken over time as I use it.

If I could change anything, I would make the barrel heavier. Right now it's too light and bounces a little as I write.

Very nice review. Thanks for sharing. Wood is such an organic material and warm to hold onto. I do however worry about getting stain by inks with use. Does the surface treatment on the surface counter such issues?

In fact the barrel end of my Maple was stained by ink when it was posted. I tried to remove stains by electrolyzed water. After that I rubbed

"Renapur" leather treatment on the barrel and the cap.

I am expecting to get my Pilot Kaede in a few days. I heard good things about the nib and its writing feel. Also, I like the fact Pilot was mindful of details of the pen by using the same wood for both the cap and barrel.

Its a well written review for someone writing in their 2nd or third language. It is far better than most of our attempts at writing a review in Japanese... I really enjoyed the pictures of the wood as it is made; it added a lot to the review.

I just received my Custom Maple (Kaede). This is a great addition to my wooden pens (Yakusugi, Briawood and Tagayasan).

I am pleased with the grain patterns for my pen. The natural wood look is excellent to behold.

Is it important to keep the rubber o-ring where the section connects to the barrel? I am referring to the o-ring which cushions or helps tighten the screw-in section to the barrel. Mine ripped off when I unscrewed the section to see the Con-70 converter.

The o-ring was somewhat loose from the beginning. So, I was thinking it would be a matter of time before it gets ripped out by screw-in/out friction. Even without an o-ring, the section seems to screw in properly.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
