Replacing Lamy Safari Nibs...

I just got a Lamy Safari and was wanting to put a 1.1 calligraphy nib in. I was wondering if that could be done with ink still in the pen, or if I would have to wait 'till I used it all first? Also, is there an easy way to replace the nib, or do I just pull the one out, and push the second in? Thanks

I change the nib while the safari is inked pretty regularly. It's just a bit more messy.

 

Easiest way I have found to change out the safari nibs is to place a strip of scotch tape across the top of the nib. Then, holding the tape and the nib, pull the nib straight off the feed. Carefully peel nib off tape and wash. Simply slide new nib onto the feed all the way.

I wear some thin rubber gloves to have a good grip. Works nicely this way.

I think the tape is mostly for grip and to minimise the amount of ink you get on your fingers. As far as I know, the scotch tape method is the one Lamy recommends.

It is quite easy. The tape is just there for the grip.

I just use the rubberband method. Rubber makes a great grip.. And it keeps your fingers clean!
