In case anyone is interested, there's an Inktober 2025 thread here. Feel free to join in, even if it's for one day. :)

I had completely forgotten about Inktober until I started seeing people post their drawings.  Of course, at the moment, given how wonky my laptop has been I might not be able to upload anything if I *did* draw it.... 🤬

I *might* take another stab at NaNoWriMo next month (although that time of year is a really lousy time to try to write roughly 1700+ words a day).  The problem for me is to get what's in my head down onto paper for a novel (well, technically several novels: the fantasy romance trilogy; and the one I would describe as "snarky summer beach read").

I do much better with NaPoWriMo every spring, and I like the challenge of trying to follow the daily prompts.  And sometimes I've been sufficiently happy with the results that I've considered trying to send them out to various poetry journals.

Any long challenges are very resource-intensive for the participant, of course, if they are responsible. As an optional entertainment, it is probably fun, but I can't do it like that. I participated in Inktober for 3 years and it is very exhausting. So my respect to everyone who dares to do this.

@inkstainedruth November isn't the best month for big project. I would say mid junior February. You can post your drawing(s) vis phone too. Sometimes it's easier. :)

@Andrew_L yes it is time consuming and exhausting.  This year, I tried to keep it simple and do it on advance. I still have 10 to do. ;)

So the point is to do it every day in October, today for today or today for tomorrow. And doing a few for the future is already cheating :))

Well, they sent the prompt on August 25. I've done it both ways. I think starting earlier helps one to figure out ideas and test them out, and enjoy the process.  :)

Beautiful.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

@Andrew_L Wow!  This is even more exquisite than the last one you posted -- you just keep knocking them out of the ballpark!

@yazeh @inkstainedruth Thank you so much. It's quite unusual to draw by special grinds, so they require finding a special nonclassical theme/technique - for me, it's Japanese art))

Oh I hadn't even noticed what nib you were using!

Someone in my local pen club got a pen with an architect's nib a few years ago, and honestly?  It didn't wow me.  So for you to be DRAWING with one?  I'm even MORE impressed....

  • 2 weeks later...

Not exactly about drawing, but… about variations of different handwriting using fountain pens.

Lovely handwriting samples, @Andrew_L as for news and newspapers, you said it all. Thankfully, there are artists like you, who capture beauty, grace and humanity in the middle of chaos. 🙏🕊️
