True enough.  My mom bought some German translations of SF stories for me and my brother to read over the summers so we wouldn't lose all the German we'd learned in school and some of the "translations" were, um, interesting to say the least.  They were stories by Keith Laumer, whose main character was a sort of interstellar diplomat/spy from Earth, and some of the translations changed the names of some of the "agencies" to be jokes in German (complete with the acronyms being the jokes).

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Yeah. And there are also words that have no analogues in other languages, for which need a separate explanation, but in the original language the mix from their sounds like a melody (I mean in poems).

"According to recognized aero technical tests, the bumblebee cannot fly because of the shape and weight of his body in relation to the total wing area. The bumblebee doesn't know this, so he goes ahead and flies anyway." - Igor Sikorsky

Hnat Khotkevych which was an artist of unprecedented scale in Ukrainian culture: bandurist, writer, art critic, theater actor, historian, teacher, ethnographer, artist… Ukrainian Leonardo da Vinci – that’s how he imagines himself today.

Grief over the tragedy of 08.07.2024, Kyiv, Okhmatdyt.
I wanted to make an other post today, but inhumane russia with its inhumane world did a massive missile attack on Ukraine and sick children. The photos is simply frightening with its horror. There are no normal words to express this yet another act of inhumanity. It is hard to even imagine what the children who were there felt and feel. (!!!!)

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
