Does this pen have a screw-out nib unit? Or is that for a later model?

You can unscrew the nib unit. It's self contained with feed+nib

I'm thinking, in that case, I'd like one pen, and two or three nibs in different sizes, if you have any pens left now. Any idea what each extra nib would cost?

I wish people to buy one, or two complete pen, to experience the writing, quality.... of the Diamond pen first, when they like it then consider buying the optional parts, accessary. That is why I offer only one chrome model in the beginning.

Due to we have only 5,000 sets of nib/feed for first production, consider the possible orders we may need to fill, so the optional nib/feed is not offered at this time. sorry for the inconvenience for you.wacko.gif

No need to apologise; I just didn't realise that. Are the pens compatible with any other nib/feed assemblies? or was that a modification that was being contemplated for a different model? I seem to remember there was sone discussion about it in another thread, but am unaware whether a decision was arrived at, or what that might have been...

Thanks very much for the link; the review was very helpful. I was hoping to see a comparison of the different widths of the nibs-- but put me down tentatively for a fine nib for now. Thanks!

Alright, all caught up on orders! If you posted in the thread or PMed me you are on the list!

We have about 70 pens left to go!

Either way, I'd like to reserve one for myself-- but please do share with us how the nibs write!

Do you have any writing samples of the nibs? I'd love to order one but I'd like to see how the nibs write first..

Thanks!

Cole, I put you down for one. Check out my impressions in my thread I made about it here. Also, if customs clears up, there is going to be a Twsbi at the Chicago pen show that you can try in person.

the nib/feed is from Schmidt without modification, so if you can find any standard nib/feed from Schmidt, it should work on Diamond.

Alright, all caught up again! Close to about 20 left! Once I hit three hundred though, I will still take orders from people who want to be on "standby" in case any buyers back out.

As speedy said, they are using a schmidt nib unit, and you can indeed buy it yourself. I have been helping out a few FPN people source nibs so they could get some italics ground. The only thing you will miss out on is the cool twsbi "nib art".

Specifically, the nib unit for the pen in this pre-order is a Schmidt FH341 (mid size). You can buy it and it will screw in with no issues. Check the make your own pen board for info on places where to buy these parts. I am pretty sure that once these pens are out, there will be some more threads/guides about getting new nibs for these pens if you don't feel comfortable "going alone".

On April 26 I joined the list with a request for 1 pen with an EF nib. I would like to add a 2d pen with a F nib, for a total of two. Thanks.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
