Gold Starry help

Hi All .

I just received this pen from an ebay purchase and would love to know a little more about this model ... like which model it is and when it was made . I bought the pen simply because I liked the look of it . It is in excellent condition with crisp , clean lines , no brassing and a complete working accordion filling system .

I know the Gold Starry company is from France and was in business from 1913 until the 1980s and their links to Conway Stewart but can find very little about them and nothing about this pen .

Any help is very appreciated

Thank you .

It is French allright, I come across Gold Starry pens on a frequent basis on the French Ebay site. Most of them that I see there are early red ripples and do not have the kind of filling mechanism that is on your pen befor. Your pen looks to me as a design from after the 1950's.

Thanks Ruud , that's about what I figured as well , late 50s to early 60s seems to be around the time they and others were using the accordion filling system . I'm very surprised that there was only one response to this question . I'm wondering now about the rarity of this pen . Since they were not very expensive pens in their day I guess very few survive .

I have filled the pen and adjusted the nib and it seems to write well , no skipping or major flow problems just a little dry but I think with a little more tweaking it will get better .

Gold Starry is not exactly a very famous brand or very much sought after. They are affordable and yet normal quality. I doubt if it is much seen outside France too. Perhaps that is why they are not so very well known.

I don't know anything about the pen itself, but it sure is pretty!

Yes , I know from reading what little I can find on them they were never a major pen company . Their only claim to fame from what I can see was their association with a very young Conway Stewart company . I'm not expecting it to be worth anything , heck it's probably not even worth the $20 that I paid for it .

I mainly bought the pen because of the filling system . I make pens and the filling system intrigued me . I'm not really sure why it never was more popular then it was , it's an efficient little filling system . I know that no one makes the accordion tubes for it anymore and since this one is in great shape I can study it and maybe mold or cast a silicone tube for use in my own pens .

The other reason I bought it was like Yuki said , It's a pretty little pen and I'm very happy that it writes nicely too .

I have a Stylomine 303 with a similar style of accordian filler. There have bee rumours of accordian sacs being still available but I haven't been able to find any. I asked one dealer in France and he said to just use a regular sac. Not very helpful for historical purposes.

I have to differ on the comments regarding Gold Starry. I have not found them to be very inexpensive at all. In fact they seem to hold a strong mid-range price an get a number of bids except from those vendors who have a particularly high starting price. I would say that you got a very nice deal for $20.

Historically I believe the company was known as Gold Star in the Uk but that name was taken in France so they went with Gold Starry. I have more info in some of my books but they are in the room with someone who is still asleep and I datesay that they would not be happy to have me start rummaging around right now.
