Monteverde "Parker Refills"

I stopped at my local Office Depot yesterday to pick up some Parker Gel refills for Faber Castell emotion, and a custom pen I had and saw that they had Monteverde "parker style" refills. Their not gel but they write pretty smooth, smoother than standard bp ink, which is how they're promoting them. I picked these up out of curiosity and because as usual they were out of the Parker Gel refills, and I wasn't in the mood to drive 10 miles to the nearest Staples. The only problem is that they come blister packed with 2 different color inks. The only combinations they had were purple and pink, and turquoise and orange. I brought the Turquoise and orange. My wife will take the orange, and the turquoise is a nice color. They also had Monteverde FP cartridges (short std intl.) in blister packs but they were in mixed colors none of which were appealing to me and I only needed the Parker refills. They were 5.99$ vs. the 5.49$ for the parker but I needed the refills.

I find that the Monteverde refills write pretty well, a fairly low viscosity BP ink. You can get standard colors (Black, Blue, Blue-Black) on-line in, I think, fine, medium or broad. They are also known, as you found out, for unusual color BP refills, including Brown which I find nice.

 

So, how do you like them?

I like the Monteverde blue broad BP refills. Both blue blue/black are nice colors -- not as nice as the old Rotring, but pretty good. They were the last BP refills I tried before giving up and switching to fountain pens as much as possible. Still keep a Parker Frontier ballpoint (brushed metal rubber grip) handy for those few times when I need a BP.

I'd have to say I like them. The gel refills always, I forgot the term but "glop" up a bit on the tip, but now after years of fp use I can't stand a standard ball point, and the Monteverde seems to be a good compromise, very smooth for a ball point, and I like the turquoise. I may look for the other colors but with my limited use of BP's I don't stock them as I do fountain pen ink.
