Hello,

I am willing to prepare Blue Ink and Black for the fountain pen but I do not have exact knowledge how to prepare Inks that is why I am not able to prepare Inks, so please help me and guide me.

What chemicals / ingredients are required to prepare Blue Ink and Black Ink? How these Inks for the fountain pens are prepared commercially or in industries? How much quantity (stoichiometry) of chemicals / ingredients I should use to prepare good quality Ink, please also explain me material balance (stoichiometry) required for the preparation.

I hope that someone will surely guide me the procedure and chemicals / ingredients required to prepare Blue Ink or Black Ink for fountain pen. I will always remain thankful and grateful to you for your kindness.

If anybody know about any Book or Website which briefly describes about Ink manufacturing then please send me or email me at: novle.novle@yahoo.com

I will wait for your positive responses.

Thanks

Why would you want to make your own ink when there's plenty of blue-blacks on the market?

If you're unhappy with the shades on all of them, why don't you just mix some?

  • Sheaffer Calligraphy Set, F & M & B Calligraphy nibs

There are some old recipes floating about the web for traditional iron gall ink. There are two important caveats:

1. They measure quantities in such scientific units as "some" and "a handful" and therefore are likely to be inconsistent from batch to batch.

2. Homemade iron gall is likely to be quite strong and dangerous to most fountain pens. It will corrode steel parts and deposit insoluble sediment in the feeds.

So, just buy some that are tested for FPs. I believe bottled ink can be had from Lamy, Montblank, Rohrer & Klinger, De Atramentis and Diamine. They're all called "Blue Black" except for Diamine, which is called "Registrar's Ink."

I would do it just to say I have. I like doing things from scratch like this.

I think that's what the OP was asking, for a recipe/instructions on how to mix some up.

Why use a fountain pen when a BP is cheaper and quicker?

Really, just do for fun and if it works by the 5th or 10th try then there are some real bragging rights. If the OP wants to then I hope he goes for it. Get some cheap ebay pens for testing and make a few trial runs. Who knows it might even be enjoyable for them.

Rick

Need money for pens, must make good notebooks. :)

I meant mix existing blue-blacks. Also, BB inks are not always iron gall, from what i know. They might just be dark blues. I hears someone mixed some blue cleaning liquid with water and used that in his pens. As for homemade iron gall, i dunno if that would be good for an FP.
