Help for Wearever cartridges

I was able to modify a Lamy converter to work with SOME Wearever cartridge fillers. Just warm it up a little, and stretch the opening out just a TINY bit (the Lamy converters have the largest opening of the ones I've seen). Once you get the Wearever fang into the converter, it will be very tight and secure.

Lamy converters all have little tabs on the side which will need to be trimmed off.

Finally, the large plastic twist handle needs to be cut down to size. Mine is left only with a small ring to twist, and the plunger rod just extends up into the pen when it's full. It works just fine.

I could not get the Lamy converter to work with the very slim Wearever pens because it was very tight fitting and just got stuck in the pen barrel.

I hope this process doesn't sound too hard, because it's very easy; just be careful when applying heat to the cartridge; it will probably distort/melt very easily. I heated the drillbit more than the cartridge itself.

Wow...my problem precisely! Thanks for the feedback - finding the problem as you described. Lacking tools and wearever-withal to deal with what you describe.....I continue to find this FPN of amazing value!

I also discovered that my Wearever pen leaks with a genuine NOS Wearever cartridge, freshly pierced and water pumped in to reconstitute the dried-out original Washable Blue ink inside.

My experience exactly tonight when I filled a NOS Wearever cartridge with a syringe to near full capacity. The cartridge drained itself through the nib in seconds. Was it because of air in the cartridge? And what's with the little metal ball? (what's its purpose?)

I've fallen down the Estie well....

Thank you everyone for this thread! I just got a Wearever pen and was wondering how to refill it. I'll try hunting down some short international carts or converters and stretching them.

I have not seen it mentioned but upon reading paart of this thread, I was inspired to see if I had any cartridges that would fit the Wearever pen I got as a gift from an estate. I compared the original cart to those I had lieing around and discovered the carts from my Lamy were nearly identical in length and girth, so I plugged it in and started writing with it. So far no leaks even though the Lamy caart is absent the metal ring on the Wearever.

ITs been a little bit, but I might try this LAMY cartridge, however the LAMY z24 converter does not fit

Wearever ink cartridges on Ebay are about two bucks each, so I've come up with a cheaper alternative. I recycle most of my ink cartridges and have a lot of clean empty Parker cartridges. They are a good snug fit for my Wearever cartridge pens, but they are too long. My solution is to use a single-edge razor blade to chop the cartridge to the same length as a Wearever (2.25 inches). The short tapered end is then reversed and inserted about 1/4 inch into the back of the cartridge, and the two are fused by lightly melting the seam at the back with a wood burner. I finish the modification by using some 320 grit sandpaper to take off any rough edges. No leaks so far!

All the Wearever cartridge pens that I've had, and I've had a lot of them, are also usable as eyedropper pens. Never had a problem.

I forgot to mention that you must seal the threads with silicone grease before reattaching the section.

Just bumping this thread with a proud confirmation that a nice old estate Wearever now has renewed life! It is not a lever fill, but has that huge fang that no cartridge wants to fit. I was able to modify a used International cartridge by stretching the opening a bit with a screwdriver and needlenose pliers. By doing so it fits snugly on the fang. I simply refilled the cartridge with my new Diamine Oxblood and voila! New old pen!

This Wearever nib seems to be pretty wet as well. Douses the paper with ink. Just wondering if that is typical for these old Wearevers or if it is a property of the Oxblood?

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
