Valentine pens, anybody got one?

I have got a rather nice marbled 'valentine' pen, which I got many years ago. It is a fairly small button filler in a kind of tortoiseshell colour (pictures to follow!!) I have never however seen any other pens by this manufacturer and would love to see any that you lot have got!!!

 

I gather that Parker purchased an interest in the british valentine pen co. in 1941 and manufactured pens under the parker name thereafter. Valentine had previously bought the company in 1932 from Felix Macaulay who had opened a fountain pen factory there after WW1 in the mid 1920s at an old disused army barracks.

I am guessing from this, that my pen was made between 1932 and 1939 (since production was slowed down considerably during the war due to the factory making torpedo parts!).

Yes, I have a Valentine fountain pen that belonged to my Grandmother. It is a lever filler, a brick red coloured plastic body, with a screw cap. The cap has no clip - there is no evidence that it ever had a clip, the cap is topped with a black 'button' and there is a gold coloured band close to the base of the cap. The nib is marked "VALENTINE 14Ct 1st Quality". The barrel is imprinted, "THE VALENTINE PEN CO LTD - MADE IN ENGLAND".

 

The nib is damaged and the lever is missing, however it has much sentimental value.

I have a Valentine , a faded BHR lever filler but with a Conway nib now. A first tier manufacture quality wise and rather rare as well, don't see many come onto the market .

I would love to see a picture of these if you can do that. I will post one myself of mine at the weekend.

I know these must be quite rare cos the company only existed for about 9 years, 2 of which were taken up making munitions!

Here is an excellent book on the the Newhaven Pen Works, including the Valentine years. It is a fun read for those interested in history and I think it is still available.

The middle pen here is a Valentine. Some have great patterns and colors...mine is just black, however.
