Lamy Vista pen clip = Awful

Patrick L

Recommended Posts

I purchased a Lamy Vista broad nib fountain pen from the internet because of it's low price. When looking at the photos , I was worried by the pen's clip. Now that I have received it I can confirm that it's really ugly. Worse that I thought. Nevertherless , the nib is ok.

well, it's the Safari clip... it would be boring if it had the same design as Pelikan or something else...

The Safari clip is VERY practical, it may look ugly but it has won many design awards!

While I do like the Lamy clip, I'm also sympathetic to your plight and would like to suggest the Official FPN cure for disappointment of all sorts -- buy another pen or maybe two.

There are quite a few inexpensive pens available; just post a request for suggestions.

Yes they are utilitarian and ugly but on the other hand you say the nib is okay so maybe you can still use it until you get a pen you like better.

The look of the clip doesn't really bother me, but it's not beautiful. As stated above, it's very practical. Large, strong clip.

Inked:

Pelikan m205 black 0.9ci/F Italifine (Diamine Damson);

Aurora 88 nikargenta (Iroshizuku Kon-Peki);

Pelikan 140 Steno (J Herbin Lie de Thé)

There are a few clips that do bother me, that one though isn't one. I do hate the standard Visconti clip and anything with jeweled eyes.

I've been using fountain pens for nearly 30 years, and for a long time I had seen Safaris on shops and I also found them ugly... until I bought one. Now I own more than 20 Lamys and I'm totally sold.

I remember thinking the same thing when I first got into fountain pens. But years later, I bought one and found the unique design endearing. As it happens, it is the only pen clip that works well with my t-shirt pockets. So... endearingly ugly and very utilitarian.

I love the clip - I think it fits the look and feel of the Lamy line and is appropriate for a low cost but well made fountain pen. I have 2 safari pens, and the clips have withstood a great deal of use and haven't sprung out at all.

I think the Safaris clip is OK. There's no other clip like it, so it's instantly recognisable as a Safari.

Initially I didn't liked it as it is very different from the conventional pen clip and the clip is one reason I did not buy the Safari range. Slowly I realized that the design is very functional and has a casual, youthful and a bit wacky element to it which may be not be the taste of classic pen lovers/ traditionalists. You can say it grew on me. The pen also is placed for the youth segment and I have not come across any clip like this even though it looks like a curved wire. Other day I bought a Vista and I loved it and the pen's design element will be incomplete with out that piece of wire!

I don't mind the Safari paperclip on the brighter coloured pens because it adds a touch of whimsical fun to the pen. Not such a fan of it on the more sedate colours.

I don't like it either. Nasty, horrible, cheap looking paperclip.

But beautifully engineered & a very clever design solution.

Richard.

Yep, utilitarian or not, I just can't get past the impression that someone has jury-rigged a big-ass paperclip to the pen.

Now, the world don't move to the beat of just one drum,

What might be right for you, may not be right for some.

A man is born, he's a man of means.

Then along come two, they got nothing but their jeans.

But they got, Diff'rent Strokes.

It takes, Diff'rent Strokes.

It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.

Everybody's got a special kind of story

Everybody finds a way to shine,

It don't matter that you got not alot

So what,

They'll have theirs, and you'll have yours, and I'll have mine.

And together we'll be fine....

Because it takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.

Yes it does.

It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.

I dunno, I kinda like the clip :) I have the matte black safari with the glossy black clip and it works very well! both functionality and style wise.

"Lamy Vista pen clip = Awful"

Easy resolution: List it for sale at reasonable inked price..

It will be snapped up by someone who needs a good pen that can hang safely from their work attire all day, suffer lots of abuse, and still perform flawlessly, for a Very long time.

Use the proceeds to purchase another pen with a clip design that pleases you.
