Dillon Ang of Dillo Pen and Ink shop has discovered that Platinum cartridges fit Aurora Duo Carts and 888 models. "You did many of us a great favor when you found that out! Now I don't have to sacrifice any of the rare vintage cartridges when I want to use a DuoCart!" says Giovanni Abrate of Tryphon Enterprises. This news means that those that own Duocart pens will not need to look for Duocart cartridges or sacrifice anymore of them. "We just have one hitch," says Mr. Ang, "The cartridges or converters must be inserted carefully even though they are a perfect fit. It is just a precaution against broken pens. As with any pen, insert carefully." If you want to use international cartridges, you can use a little widget available at your Platinum dealer, and if you want to use Platinum cartridges again, just remove it. Honestly, I think this widget is just what we need if we want to use international cartridges. Mr. Ang also recommends that you fill the pen remembering that the converter will not fill completely and that much of the ink is in the feed of the pen. According to him, it is not really that much of a payoff, but if you want more ink capacity, just plug in a cartridge. Either way, now I can enjoy my Duocart!

Reaching a couple of years back for this very interesting press release, just to ask: did you ever encounter any problems using the Platinum cartridges in the DuoCart? (I noticed your recent post, touching on this subject, in the Platinum Blue-Black ink thread.) Did you have any success with Platinum converters (or, with the Platinum adapter installed, with "international" converters)?

 

I occasionally consider buying a DuoCart, but I've already got enough obsolete cartridge pens: Esties, Slim Sheaffers, Gehas, Wearevers...even a Waterman Jif glass-cartridge pen. So I want to be certain that the Platinum option is a reliable alternative for the Aurora.

I just retrieved from a storage case a Duo Cart I have had for years. When I tried the Platinum converter, it felt that I would have to force it too much to make it fit. I may well have simply been too cautious. I tried a Platinum cartridge -- and perhaps I was willing to push a bit harder -- I got it to fit. I have been writing happily with the Duo Cart for the past half hour.

After hearing of the new version of the Aurora (a favorite brand) Duo Cart, I found a NOS of the original with a 14K fine nib on eBay for less than the lowest price ffor the rebooted pen which is only offered with a medium steel nib. Thank you for the information on the Platinum converter. I've some at hand from unfortunate purchases of 3776's (horrible nibs - lesson learned) so I'm pleased that some portion of them can go to good use. Thank you.
