Review of envelope-making tools

Recommended Posts

For those of you out there who write letters and/or like to make your own envelopes, I just did a review on my blog of three envelope-making tools I got from PaperSource: an envelope template kit, a bonefolder, and Lick & Stick envelope glue.

My findings are all favorable!

You should try experimenting with your own templates, then you can vary size and design.

I was very into making envelopes for a while, and always tried to think of different ways to fold them and variations of the shapes the edges make. My roommates thought I was crazy. Also, making your own lining is wonderful.

Thanks for the comments, all - I appreciate them.

WillSW, I have flirted with the idea of making liners, thought I suspect I lack the patience. PaperSource sells a separate envelope liner kit for those like me that need some extra help, but I doubt I'll get that fussy.

(And yes - I had much fun making the troll envelope!

That's awesome! :) Great looking envelope. I actually want one of these so that I could make personalised money envelopes for the new year... I didn't even know they sold "lick and stick" glue! To be honest, I've made my own "lick and stick" formula using white glue and vinegar. I don't recall the exact proportions, but I believe it was around 2 parts glue to 1 part vinegar. :P

I saw this on Lifehacker today: Map Envelope is a web-based tool which can make an envelope template lined with a Google map of your location, plus a custom message. You can then print out this template. I haven't tried it yet, but thought I'd share the link. The size of the envelope seems to be around 3.5 in x 5 in.

I keep coming back to my Esterbrooks.

Interesting. That is the smallest acceptable size for a first-class rate envelope in the USA.

Looks pretty cool, especially if you have a color printer with good resolution.

Of course, this map envelope would be pretty useless if the recipient uses a letter opener to cut the top seam of the envelope (like I do). :headsmack:

I forgot to say that I also enjoyed reading about the making of your troll envelope. :)

Thanks for the post. Interesting idea. No need right now, but something to keep in the "file cabinet" in the back of my mind.

There will be no crisis this week. My calendar is already full.

Wow! These are nifty templates! Being able to see through them is definitely a plus. I love making envelopes. I often use old calendar pictures. Your blog is so much fun! That troll envelope! How cute!
