Waterman Florida Blue

Florida Blue is my tried and true ink. Whenever I run into a fussy pen that has starting or skipping problems, I don't do any adjustments or tinkering until I ink it up with Waterman's Florida Blue. Usually that is all I need to do to cure any problems. Great ink, and cheap, too.

TNmike, According to the tests in the two threads I found, Florida Blue is not water resistant.

The Index in Scans, Comparisons and Water Tests is still there:

Here are the two entries in Water Tests for Florida Blue:

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=33890

I use whatever ink I wish to. When the ink is dried, I rub a candle over the addresses on the envelopes. This works fine for me.

Hope this helps a bit.

May you have pens you enjoy, with plenty of paper and ink. :)

Nice reminder Gran, thank you for posting. I've been lucky because this color/formulation is one of my go-to inks in most of my correspondence. I've had mixed results with the permanent inks (some play well in my pens and some don't).

After viewing these two topics, I guess if I had to be absolutely certain that a letter makes it to recipient, I'd have to address the envelope with a rollerball or ballpoint.

Paul, thanks for the kind thoughts.

I've yet to have a problem with the candle method. Someone here on FPN recommended it.

thanks for the water-test post. Now WHERE on these forums did I read that Waterman's Blue Black was somewhat waterproof? Back to Noodler Navy or Aircorp Blue Black I suppose

In France, a long time ago, I bought, by mistake, one pack of long cartridge in Waterman Blue Black .

I didn't like the color and I found out that it was not erasable.

When an ink earaser was used on top of it, it turned some shade of reddish or purpleish pink.

I think this is what also happens when a water test is done, the blue disappears but some residue of black stays probably mixed with a little red.

My favorite all around ink ever.

And it's relatively cheap and easy to get. And it loves every pen I put it in. My Waterman Kultur and my Rotring Core and my LAMY AL Star especially become velvety smooth with this ink. It does change color slightly depending on the pen. In the Kultur and Core it's very dark, in the Al Star, there's more Blue and in my Waterman Hemisphere it's a little bit more washed out.

Like many others have said, Florida Blue is a mainstay ink for me. I use a lot of very different pens, nibs and papers. I cannot think of any times where I would not happily use this ink. Yes, the tone does vary with the nib and paper used. Part of the fun I think. Since most of my writing consists of stuff without security issues, I don't mind that it is erasable or non-permanent. I have many different bottles of ink on my shelf, but this is the one that runs empty most often. /Craig

Exactly my thoughts too, Craig! I never get tired of Waterman Florida Blue and I never get tired of Wman Blue reviews. I like it more from a wet medium/broad nib, personally. Dry and thin nibs tends to make the ink look sickly or dry, at least in my experience.

I love this ink and use it often. However, when it dries, it becomes a pale, almost baby blue.

It looks saturated enough when writing, though. Anyone know the reason for this?

Ah, that fresh ink on paper look!

I also love Waterman Florida Blue, as well as Havana Brown and South Seas Blue, and use each ink daily This is somewhat ironic, because in my pre-fountain pen days I purchased a Waterman rollerball pen and I found the Waterman roller-ball refill cartridges almost unusable.

I haven't read the entire thread -but- Waterman Florida Blue and Quink Blue fade and it doesn't take much time or sunlight. I stopped using these inks in the early 1990's... perhaps the formulas have improved.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
