Thank you for the lovely review and the beautiful comparisons. It's nice to see all those colors together.

May you have pens you enjoy, with plenty of paper and ink. :)

Please use only my FPN name "Gran" in your posts. Thanks very much!

Well done, Michael! I especially appreciate the comparison scans. In particular, it makes it look as though Caran d'Ache Grand Canyon is a pretty reasonable approximation to Penman Mocha (my, hands-down, favorite Brown ink) - as Mocha is pretty tough to come by any more, perhaps I will order some Grand Canyon before it, too, goes away.

Thank you for the review. The only brown I have is the Waterman Havana Brown and that MB looks lighter and more redish. I have some MB Sepia cartridges queuing -first I want to try Bordeaux-.

Really outstanding review, and now a must have when available in the USA. I would also love to see it compared to the two years of chocolate season's greetings which I love.

BTW, I called MB Refills-USA today and they hope to have the new inks in stock by the end of this month or first week of March.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

Thanks for the great review. I just purchased a bottle of Toffee Brown (along with Oyster Grey). Very nice and quick drying time too.

I have to say the bottle is amazing especially the cap. No wonder I paid US$15 per bottle! Just the quality of the bottles and packaging are worth it LOL. Ink is not too bad either :D

I've already tested the Sepia in cartridge and I prefer the Waterman Havanna Brown. Maybe that Tofee Brown is more similar to the Waterman, as it looks more intense and with a redish tone that I like. The MB sepia is a more pure brown. Other thing I didn't like about sepia is that is very dense. I turn the cartridge and the ink remains on the top. I must shake it and then it falls as a block.

I ran it across three or four papers (not into paper yet; all different paper, none dirt cheap)....with old Mercedes OF, Pelikan 120 F, Geha KM, Pelikan 140 OB which were semi flex and normal flex, Pelikan 400 M,BB Pelikan 605, and one or two other pens.

I found the ink more light and more brown in the narrower nibs.

Too dark in the wider nibs.

If I wrote light with the M, it was nicely shaded, if heavy, it was a tad dark with a bit of shading at the beginning and ends of the letters.

I did change my mind on M nibs, though. A good matching ink can make a Medium lively.

The OB gave sharp shading..the color changing sharply between a light brown and a dark brown..I do like that nib...

With a bit of practice, perhaps I could control the sharpness of the color break. Perhaps a different nib.

I have a fair selection of nibs, still need a few; 8 or so.

I did come to the conclusion that I must make a file with cards, and different papers and pens, to judge an ink better.

This ink is fine in a couple of nibs, and not the color I want in a couple of others.

I am sure, that is so in many inks, but I am now a 6 Ink noobie.

Oh, Yes I would buy this ink again. This is an ink where nib size, flex and paper make huge differences.

I am still noobie, so I don't know if that is normal or not.

My next ink is the Pelikan brown.

I don't yet know what brown is after that.....

I love this ink color.

For those who are wondering it is not water resistant. One small drop of water, three days after writing, completely removed two words it dripped onto.

Very good review! I just got this ink and it is a really nice and elegant looking brown. I find it similar to Sailor red-brown, another lovely brown that I just heard has been discontinued. Have to try them side by side to see if they are really that close. Gigi

I just ordered a bottle of IROSHIZUKU Horsetail....reddish brown.

I was wondering how it would compare to that one.

I like a fairly dark brown with the finer nibs....otherwise they looked washed out. Private Reserve Chocolate is nice for a fine line: Galileo Manuscript Brown for a broad. I also like PR Copper Burst.

Guess I'll have to order a MB Toffee Brown to compare it with the Iroshizuku ink.

I really wanted a dark brown Montblanc ink to go with the dark brown cap of my just acquired Alexandre Dumas!!

Anyone written with the new Iroshizuku Horsetail reddish brown color? What do you think?

Very good review. Toffee Brown has become a real favorite of mine. I have two bottles of Sepia but it isn't as dark and rich as the Toffee Btrown.

Had the same thing happen to me!! I was astounded! Absolutely NO water resistance at all!

In South Louisiana with our 100% humidity at times, I foresee entire pages melting into nothingness!

This is my one and only bottle that I'll ever buy.....I think MB could have done a better job at least with SOME resistance.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
