Only Platinum, not an international brand. Also, you could refill cartridges.

The reason I buy Preppys is because they can be so easily converted in to eyedropper pens. In fact, these are the ones that (after conversion) are shipped with some of the Noodler's Inks. That barrel really does hold a bunch of ink!

The carts are rather small and expensive, although it is easier to change ink color with a few carts to refill (or a converter) than if it is filled entirely.

I believe Jetpens sells a converter so one may use a short international cartridge in the Preppy.

(figure that is a good way to use up those Diamine cartridges I keep getting with my bottles.)

I got a converted eyedropper from Noodler's, but it comes with a fine/extra fine nib. Does anyone know if the nib can be replaced, and if so, which company's nibs could be used instead? I prefer something that writes a more medium/broad line.

Love the amount of ink that it can hold.

The Preppy does come in a M, which is nominally 0.5 mm. I don't think it would be easy to change nibs, but you could probably just exchange sections.

The nib and inner feed can be pulled out of the section and exchanged with the parts from another Preppy, or an angled chisel highlighter or conical sign tip can be inserted (available from JetPens and probably elsewhere).

Thanks for the replies. Will give it a shot to see if I can get that broader nib on!

There are two nib sizes - F (0.3mm) and M (0.5mm). They can be exchanged the same way that Lamy Safari nibs can be swapped.

Hello!

I must respectfully disagree. Actually, the nib with feed can be pulled out of the collector so it's NOT like the Safari. The Safari nib should slide off the feed (it helps to use double sided Scotch tape) and the feed is left in the section and attached to the collector.

For the Preppy, the nib is worked out the way one would gently twist and work out a Parker 75 nib & feed (older, triangular section). Hold the pen section with non-dominant hand (e.g., left for right-handers), and with the thumb on top of the nib and forefinger under the nib, gently twist back and forth while pulling out. The nib should be easily removed.

Good luck!

Robert

  • 2 weeks later...

Over the holiday period I found myself with a few Preppys and a collection of random bits from my FP stash. I found I had one of the nice Preppys that come with Noodler's 4.5oz and wanted to try using a converter with it but did not have a Platinum converter at hand.

The only one I had that came close was a Lamy converter (the clear + black kind, so not the one for the Safaris/Vista). At first it seemed like it wouldn't fit but then by trying and trying it obviously expanded to the point that it fit very tightly.

I now have a very nice-looking transparent Preppy (since bodies of the Noodler's pens have no markings on them) with only black and chrome accents. Had I used the Platinum converter it would have had golden accents.

So, in summary, if you are willing to sacrifice a Lamy converter (since it is expanded it will no longer fit on a Lamy) then you can use it with a Preppy.

Regards,

JRD

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
