I am looking for new purple ink. Already have Private Reserve Tanzanite and Plum, Waterman Encre Violette Purple Ink, and Papier Plume Violet. What is your favorite purple?

Pelikan 4001 violet. More luminous than all of the above.

My favorites are Pelikan Violet and Noodler's Purple Wampum. They're opposites; I like Pelikan because it's bright and cheerful and the PW because it's dark and serious.

Of the purples I have which you don't own already, I feel that montblanc violet, and diamine imperial purple are worth trying. I don't recommend herbin pousierre de lune, or noodler's purple wampum. PDL is a chalky, muted red-purple. Wampum is a very dark black-purple, more black than purple. If you haven't seen it already, in the review by Shinichiro on R&K solfierno this purple looks pretty good. May be worth trying as well.

Diamine Violet which is a beautiful lavender, and R&K Scabiosa which is a beautiful dusty purple.

My fav is Noodler's Saguaro Wine (same color as Cactus Fruit which is an "eel" lubricating ink). It's redder than most purples, and was >exactly< what I was looking for when I was out to find the perfect purple.

Diamine Deep Magenta was almost exactly the same color in the one test I did on regular copier paper.

I have a bottle of MontBlanc Violet which has great promise. It's more blue than Saguaro, but it's still more red than Noodler's Purple. I'd be hard pressed to say that it's on the red or blue side of purple - it's smack dab in the middle. And it's nice and rich looking - well saturated. I'm liking it just now looking at my samples. But I've yet to run it in a pen. "Note to self..."

Looking at my purples sample page, Tanzanite looks very blue. Not purple. But on my page of blue inks and alone, it always looks so purple-y.

I'm really fond of Noodler's V-Mail Violet. It just seems so vibrant!

+1. I'm not a big violet guy, but I really like this stuff!

Diamine Imperial Purple is a beautiful, vibrant ink.

One of our best-selling purples.

Does De Atramentis (Jansen) Aubergine count as purple? I really like it.

Wish I'd have been able to try this stuff; heard incredible things about it, but we sold our only bottle about seven seconds after listing it. :(

R&K Solferino has been the most popular of the limited number of samples we've been selling lately. Only 4 samples left! :(

I'm a big of Montblanc Violet, having just discovered it. I also really like Diamine Damson, although it may not be to everyone's tastes. I like dark, reddish purples, clearly.

That would be my choice also.

My fab purple without a doubt is Noodler's La Colouer Royale. Supposed to be the colour of French royalty? (correct me if I'm wrong??) but it is a beautiful, rich, dense ink that flows beautifully, like alot of noodler's inks.

Patience is a virtue when waiting for the right pen... although I do just always seem to miss them

The Diamine purples are excellent.

And how can this be, because he is the Kwisatz Haderach.

My two favorite purples are Private Reserve's Purple Mojo and Noodlers' Le Reine Mauve.

Lamy Purple is a true, very balanced purple. Unfortunately, only available as cartridges! :crybaby:

I use Poussiere de Lune for work. It's dark enough to look professional yet distinctive. Makes my chicken scratch look 'eclectic' and 'unique' rather than just plain messy. It also has very nice shading when used with a B nib, IMHO.

I just picked up a bottle of Private Reserve Ebony Purple today and it's GORGEOUS, if you like a darker purple shading towards black (which I obviously do).

+1 for Noodlers' Le Reine Mauve

Also some accidental purples I've made when mixing blues and reds

Just loaded my new Lamy Studio Violet with MB Violet and it's gorgeous (the ink, though the pen is nice, too).

It's hard to say what purple I like best because they are so different in different pens. In general, I'll say Noodlers' Le Reine Mauve, Noodler's Wampum (I haven't found it to be too dark), PR's Purple Ebony, C d'A's Storm, while iroshizuku's yama budo is more red than blue, but still purple-ish. I also like Levenger's Amethyst and Waterman's Violet for clear purples that aren't dark but are still lovely. I don't have the Diamines so haven't tried them, though it looks like I should. (I do have Damson and like it though it has been a bit problematic in the two pens I've tried it in.)

J Herbin's Poussière de Lune and Larmes de Cassis are both unusual shades of purple, while I adore their scented Violet (the scent is more for the writer than the recipient, alas).

Haven't tried Noodler's new V-Mail purple, either. Sigh. So many beautiful colors! It'll take me centuries to get through what I already have, and I'm thinking I may not have quite that long. ;)

(Edited to correct spelling. )

The three "purple" inks I own and I am currently using are:

Nooder's La Colour Royale - rich saturated deep purple, works great like most Noodler's inks do

Mont Blanc Violet - maybe a hint of a wine tint. Exceptional in every way. MB made a huge mistake discontinuing this color

Pelikan Violet - a very nice flowing rich purple color that stands out on the page which I am using at this moment.

Ane of the three would be an excellent choice for a daily purple ink.
