Vintage Pens in Amsterdam, Brussels, & Bruges?

Hi All,

I'll be taking a trip to the Netherlands and Belgium this Spring. I know about the pens shops featuring current pens, e.g. Akkermans, but am wondering where the best places are to find the between the wars and post war vintage pens? I realize that it's a broad question, but it shows you just how deep my ignorance on the subject is.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

-john

I can't tell for Belgium, but you are not going to find a vintage pen shop in Amsterdam. Or the Netherlands. Not that I know of. There is a yearly pen show in Tilburg in on the last saturday of September. There are heaps of vintage pens. But otherwise you have to be very, very lucky on a "rommelmarkt" or a "kringloopwinkel" in order to find one in the wild.

Years ago, when I lived on Brouwersgracht in the Jordaan district of Amsterdam, there was a market a few streets over from me and there was a regular pen seller that had a stall. He always had good pens. It was a long time ago so I do not know if that stall is still there, or if another has replaced it. But the fact that it existed showed that there was a pen trade going on. On Oudezijds Achterburgwal there was an antique shop that always had a good stock of old pens in the window.

Never found a vintage pen shop in Belgium. I do have a good pen and paper shop where I live, but not much choice in inks.

There are no specific vintage pen shops in Belgium, but there are the following things:

1) Antwerp is famous for its many antique shops, many of them have some vintage pens

2) The same goes for Antique shops in Brussels, near "de zavel" and the justice palace

Then there is one guy who is active in Ebay under the name "brocollanti", he doesn't sell much on Ebay but he has hundreds of vintage pens for sale, he lives not so far from Brussels in the walloon part of Belgium. I'm just not so sure whether he is 100% honest and his prices are on the high side as well.

If you'd like to meet up in Belgium, drop me a PM, perhaps we could do some FP shops or just discuss the finer points of FP over a nice Belgian beer.

Hi Everybody,

Thanks, even if an area has no vintage pen shops per se, and I don't really know of anyplace that has anything that specialized, you've given me areas to look and that's what I needed most.
