Rocker Blotter Position

Photos of rocker blotters always show them with the paper down. It seems that if the blotter were used, wet ink might stain the desk if the blotter were left in the upright position. Do they rest in saucers or some other container between uses?

Some rockers have a base that they sit in. Blotter paper absorbs the small amounts of ink that pool when writing. Amounts that small will stay locked into the blotter fibers and dry quickly. You shouldn't have any problem about leaving ink spots on your desk. You can always set your rocker on a bit of newspaper just to be sure.

This varies with the type of blotting paper used in my experience. I try to use the most absorbent blotting paper available. I don't have problems with ink on the desk but with less absorbent papers it is possible to transfer minute ink marks back onto the writing paper if two passes are made in quick succession.

I don't have to use my rocking blotter very often. In all the times I have used it, I have never had it leave an ink mark on anything. I will admit that I have used mine to blot up large drops when filling a pen or when working on a newly acquired pen. Still, no ink stains or marks. The blotting paper I use soaks up all the excess ink on the letter or all the spilled ink.

I've used a rocker-blotter daily for 2-3 years now, and in my experience, no, the paper doesn't stain the table or any other paper once something has been blotted.

This MIGHT happen when the paper needs to be changed (ie - when it's so full of ink, it starts leaving smudges on the written page, regardless of how you use it). But that's the only time that this should happen.

+1 to all the above, but you can always rest the blotter on a piece of paper if you are concerned
