Waterman Edson Sapphire blue question

OTDoc

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a sapphire blue fountain pen from another FPN member and it is a gorgeous pen. I have noticed that it seems to have a unique feature that I have not seen on other pics of this pen: I sapphire blue jewel mounted on a small raised metal button on top of the cap. Anyone know why this one has it and others do not? Thanks!

Long live the Empire!

I saw the pic and was wondering exactly the same thing.

The Edson is my favourite all time pen and I am lucky enough to own three and a selection of nibs I have aquired over the years.

However, I did notice the advert from which you bought your pen and I was also baffled by the addition of this ´jewel´ . I am sure someone on here will have the answer for you.

Enjoy your pen.

IIRC, the collective wisdom of FPN established in a thread a while back (and I suspect that JML was jumping in with a definitive word, although I do not recall exactly) that an early run of the Sapphire Blue Edson had a "raised button" on the end of the barrel, whereas newer versions do not.

About a year ago, when sending in an Edson for a nib change I saw several models with metal rondels at the end of the barrels.

According to the service person Edsons sent in for barrel repair are replaced with the barrels with the rondels. Perhaps it's Waterman's way of identifying serviced models.

Haven't see a jewel on the cap though.

Stay well,

Solomon

Forgive my ignorance but what is a rondel?

It's any round metal or plastic piece, sometimes with a logo or design, affixed on pens, etc. The bird design on the cap ends of Pelikan pens is an example. Traditionally round metal used to cover vulnerable parts of the human anatomy in a suit of armour.

Actually, any chance of getting pictures of the "button"/"button-less" Watermen's, for starters? And, the "cap jewel" talk intrigues me, I have no recollection of having ever seen that....

Hi all

You want pictures? No problem. Here they are:

It was me who sold this pen to OTDoc. I'm not an expert, but I can say that this pen is 100% origin. I also would be interested in what I sold...

Wonder if that was something special for Waterman execs, or maybe for European market?

I'm European, and my Edson's do not have that jewel.

I still don't have an answer on this one. Anyone know? Any Waterman experts out there?
