Thanks for the review. Lexington Gray shouldn't appeal to me, but I guess I like it because it looks so much like ink. I always have one pen inked with it.

This is my favorite gray. I love it in my broad italic nibs--lots of shading!

 

+1 Its the only gray I like, no green tones. I tried PR's grey flannel and it seemed green to me.

The difference between the almost right word & the right word is really a large matter--it's the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.

I like the color, whether one considers it a "grey" or a "shading black"...

 

I haven't tried a grey in my pens as yet . . . maybe I'll have to give it a whirl soon.

To me, it looks more like pencil. Especially in a medium or narrower nib.

 

In any case, it's one of my favorites. Well-behaved, and unerasable -- I mean, bulletproof.

To me, it looks more like pencil. Especially in a medium or narrower nib.

A 1.1 mm italic seems about as wide as practical for general writing, but what do I know? Report back, whatever you get!

Did you state that Italian lovers are hot? Sorry my imagination got the best of me here. lol.

 

I wrote a cheque (Canadian spelling for check) with a gray ink. The bank cashed my cheque. To my surprise, the so-call pencil ink is actually valid for cheques. And your welcome.

Interesting you mention that about the Safari nib. I actually have a 2.0mm nib for my Safari that I totally forgot about. Thanks for the helpful suggestion.

I think it's quite an unfair review. You take an ink that I don't find very attractive... and make it look good!

 

I always read your ink reviews, even for inks and colors that I don't like. Love your handwriting and the review presentation. Thanks for posting!

thanx signum1 for this review.

 

it appears i should've bought this ink from the begining. in my quest for my perfect grey ink, i've acquired Omas, Herbin gris nuage and PR grey flannel, but i'm not 100% happy with them.

 

i like the comments about the absence of green tones (i hate that in a grey ink).

 

lexington grey looks like my next one!!!

I would love to see this ink compared to Kiri-Same, which is my favorite gray (at least has been till now, currently I'm not sure since you make Noodlers look so good). I would like to know which one shades better, since Kiri-Same is a king of that in my experience and this looks so nice that I can't tell them apart (shading wise), so head to head comparison would be nice.

I just picked up my second bottle of Lexington Gray. I like it well enough to keep one of my vp workhorses filled with it.

Good to know, for me the price question ain't that big issue since postage from states is pretty much inflated amount even more then what few japanese sellers charge. Maybe I combine the order of one bottle with something else if I'm ordering something from states in future :) Thanks for the review and answer!

AWESOME review and very informative as to the real properties of the ink. I ordered a bottle of this just for use in an ivory notebook to get that wonderful dark gray tint.

 

The water test confirms that this is a good ink for my archival purposes.

Doug,

 

Sometimes with the right nib the inks reveal their hidden beauty. Right now, I have couple of brown inks that I would not consider interesting. Yet, when I write with those brown inks, I took an immediate liking. Like the old expression that I adjusted for kicks, "beauty is in the eyes of the frisky beholder." lol Enjoy the rest of your American Thanksgiving dinner. :)

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
