Diamine Onyx Black ink

Recommended Posts

I'd be interested to hear from all those who have used Diamine Black Onyx ink.

What do you think of its qualities (saturation, lubrication, flow, feathering, bleed-through, water resistance, etc)?

Do you consider it to be a well-behaved ink?

How does it compare to other black inks you have used?

Now don't get me wrong but it's like this:

I don't know that ink but for me, it only has a chance if it is a black and well-behaved as Aurora's or Perle noire.

OK....anyone use Diamine Onyx Black?

I do. I've heard warnings that it can stain your pens, so far no problem in my Twsbi, but I'll keep you posted.

About as black as Heart of Darkness, dry time longer, perhaps more bleed-through (no feathering for me).

It's an okay ink, unless it does stain pens -- in which case stay away!

I am using Onyx black for myself and two out of my three children. So far, it's been well behaved (no clogging) and I haven't seen any staining of pens (a pink safari, a Vista, a CS206M, and a P75). I haven't seen any bleeding or feathering, even on the nasty paper in school jotters, but yes, show through in the nasty notebooks supplied in our office - but I attribute that in the main to my preference for broad italic/stub nibs.

Would I buy it again? Yes, but I will try some of the other Diamine blacks first, because this one is just not quite dark enough for me.

I'd advise against using this ink in all but the most disposable pens. It left a red stain on my Pelikan and in a Lamy converter.

Aside from that I found it to be a nicely-saturated ink with good flow and a slow drying time.
