Noodler's Ink: Baystate Blue

I really like my BSB. Noodler's forever!

I will say though that the super bright blue that some people report is very dependent on what kind of light you're in. Some times I see it, some times I don't. Really warm (yellow) incandescent lights make BSB look much darker from what I've seen. And florescent lights bring out that brightness.

I would like to use this ink in my Omas Emotica (ebonite-feed), is there any risk?

And how, if I can, clean this pen to use another ink, after BSB?

Thx.

I would never put BSB in a valuable pen!

If you want to risk it, that's up to you.

I'd keep BSB away from Lamy pens - they don't play well together.

Try an Esterbrook - cheap, replaceable, and tough - just about bulletproof, you might say :headsmack:

I would like to try out this ink, i've heard a lot of bad stories about this ink and i want to test it.

maybe i can try this ink in different brands like, waterman, parker, lamy, pelikan, montblanc, cross and review it.

I have never seen this ink in Holland, is it only available in th USA or internet?

Hello Lennard. Take a closer read about BSB's tendency to destroy Lamy pens, and reconsider.

....and even bleach hasn't helped.

Try sunlight or a rag moistened with rubbing alcohol to blot it up. Of course test on an inconspicuous part of the rug first.

This is what I was fearing. Even people I met at one pen meeting some weeks ago, told me the horror stories about noodlers baystate blue. As a reminder: "do not use this ink (bay state blue) in vintage and/or expensive pens." . Better buy a more user friendly ink than having a nice pen ruined because of a bad ink.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Or the OP could simply ask what experience others have had using BSB in particular pens. Most posters seem to have no problems, except perhaps staining, in most pens, regardless of age or cost. Stories are entertaining, facts are useful.

Hello.

I know the risks, but the pens i want to use for this ink are pens that i use for parts only, like old damaged and incomplete pens.

i do not use expensive pens to try out this ink.

now then..... how about the sentence above that is in red being on the box and bottle of BSB ? It would educate them that are not involved with this site, yes there are some, about the potential problems with this product. Easy peasy.

Not a chance. That sentence represents a conclusion reached about the use of BSB by only a certain group of people. It doesn't represent the conclusions of others or the recommendation of the manufacturer.

"recommendation of the manufacturer" which are and displayed where? Sorry to appear pushy on this but for the sake of something which could be classed as ignorance I find it hard to accept that a product on open sale as a pen ink `may` damage or stain the implement it was sold to be used in.

If you used BSB as a say mouth wash and ended up with stained teeth well its your fault. Think you can guess the point I am trying to make.

2010 best wishes to all, even ballpen owners.

The warning proposed was not about what the ink could do, but rather not to use it.

A warning about the possibility that INK could stain a pen would indeed be appropriate for buyers likely to use BSB as mouthwash.

Has Nathan Tardiff weighed in on BSB's reputation or has he been able to do tests with Lamy and other pens? If so, he'd be the source to clear things up.

i detect a small marketing flaw in your suggestion

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
